absolutely beautiful! man I wish Star Trek would do designs like this again instead of "How can we redesign the Constitution Class for the umpteenth time?"

[-] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

NCC-1701 (refit) and A are my favorite designs of all time. The original shape with the refit's nacelle design just looks so sleek without being too over the top. I don't like the newer ships after TNG: they look overly scifi'd.

[-] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 1 points 2 months ago

oh don't get me wrong I absolutely love the refit and A. totally. I just don't want to see them...again...on "new" stuff ala the Enterprise-G.

And you're right about the ships post TNG. They went from "we love exploring" to "we gotta fight the dominion and the borg and our ships need to look the part" Just give me more of the curvy yet powerful looking designs from TNG again. And I mean sure it's not like there were many in TNG, hell the Nebula was just a Galaxy with no neck and an upsidedown stardrive but god dammit I liked it.

I do like the JJ Abrams Enterprise. Guilty pleasure.

The hot rod look on the front of the nacells and matching lower decks speak to design awareness. Just curvy enough without making it unrecognizable.

I loved the aesthetics of those films. The ship, the uniforms, and the Klingons. And Chris Pine clearly loves the role.

Karl Urban is also great

This is stunning, I love the grain! EDIT: you answered my question already, it's oak!

[-] Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Oh my god that is fucking beautiful....

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Wait. Did you post this just to brag how big your D is?

[-] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Gotta be 18 inches, at least.

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I had never thought about what the D designation and the size of the ship might be suggesting until I saw the title of this post. I can't stop laughing, and will probably forever giggle every time TNG "comes up" in conversation.

Nice wood, bro.

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Is this all really one piece like it looks?

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It looks like the saucer might detach, as it should!

[-] CelloMike@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Sadly it doesn't, that's just the join between sections - I did look into it, but couldn't find a way that would simultaneously hold it firmly together, let it detach when needed, and be invisible from the outside.

It's quite a big model and really front-heavy thanks to how much saucer there is, so it had to all be one piece really

[-] CelloMike@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It's made from a few sections - saucer, 2 piece neck, engineering hull, pylons, dictated by the sizes of timber I had

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

What a firm and beautiful D you have.

And what shapely and enticing nacelles.

OH! Myyy!!!

[-] SlothMama@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Love your D! I'm a bit partial to Excelsior class ships, but Galaxy is good too.

[-] CelloMike@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Thanks! The Excelsior was actually the first one I made :)

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Give it to him, he needs a new one.

But for real, your ship model looks nice.
