Zohran wouldnt have won if Cheney had been alive to vote

[-] varmint@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Dick Cheney filing out a ballet the size of a novelty check

[-] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

If Cheney had lived we would have no use for Zohran.

two out of the three genders screenshot of hexbear with this post next to one saying it's overhyped

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Like, it's important to remember the big picture and not let one relatively minor event prevent you from doing the work to advance socialism

But it's also good to enjoy the misery of your enemies, because that's just fun

I see more negativity about Mamdani winning than I have seen about ICE raids lol

[-] blunder@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Hexbears falling over themselves to be correctly pessimistic and cynical:

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Hexbear be like:

GOOD THING: BAD

What a bunch of fucking rubes! doggirl-smart

0% chance he actually does any of that lol. he's obama all over again

[-] SmokinStalin@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Free busses, refusing to raise price of rent stabilized apts and expanding an already existing childcare program are well within the realm of possibility. Hes not trying to abolish the police or Mao all the landlords . Yall say hes lying bout the good things he's been focused on, i think he was more likely lying about "playing nice" with zionists.

As much as I would like to hear a politician be like "death to amerikkka!" I also understand its not a winning campaign strat.

What else do you see in your crystal ball?

[-] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

the apparatus of capital arrayed against him

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Nobody is saying the ice raids are a victory for socialism

[-] PowerLurker@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

eh, a loooooooot of the doom/depression posts here from US users are undergirded by fear and despair around the imperial boomerang creating man made horrors beyond comprehension domestically, ICE being emblematic of that. this reads as a bit of a strawman to me. most people seem soft pro-Zohran, but hexbear is (still, to my knowledge) a majority ML space so varying amounts of skepticism around the current face of the democratic party entryist movement should be expected.

[-] SmokinStalin@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

THIS. Genuinely feels like something is very off here.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Honestly, the relatively little coverage of the ICE raids on this site has been really weird

[-] SmokinStalin@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Seriously it seems odd that the doomers are so focused on the one good thing thats happened rather than the constant deluge of atrocity.

[-] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

If videos were easier to post/embed I would repost footage here but I'm not sure how to get it to play properly.

Optimism waves are difficult to handle when people are struggling, specially when left without an outlet to channel that frustration into something that would advance their own lives being better.

I think of how difficult it is for myself to stay positive when the local orgs I've reached out to have no use of me and all I can really do is write letters to people or something like that, in order to agitate them and make them think a little hopefully, through a one person operation.

[-] SmokinStalin@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I get it. Am a teacher in a deeply red area. Trust me, I feel the frustation of having no organizing outlet. But it just feels like doomerism to scold people for having any hope.

[-] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

I think you're right. Educating people on the flaws on electoral politics is one thing, but being outright mean to them is hinging on being reactionary.

[-] Tabitha@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

everybody here obsessed with "principles" or w/e meanwhile tomorrow I'm getting in line for the world's first affordable halal

I will enjoy Mamdanis victory and Europa Universalis 5. Its good to be alive.

[-] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Is it worth getting? I feel like if I get the game I'm gonna be stuck with a game that has 2000000 euros worth of dlc in 5 years and feels unfinished.

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Only because they're not fun

[-] Esoteir@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

real, i was tricked into "playing" a "game" of multiplayer stellaris once lenin-pensive

mostly involved me staring at my reflection on my dark ahh screen while 1/67th of a match played over the course of 3-4 hours

never again, i'd rather be blasting a skaarj lord in unreal 98' rizz

Here are my two cents. I think EU5 is Paradoxs most ambitious and grand game yet. It has the most content, the most systems, the most depth, the most of everything straight out of the gate on day 1. Compared to other paradox gaems on day 1.

Its also true that the game will probably get DLC for the next 10 years at a rate of 3 to 4 per year. Towards the end, it will likely feel pretty bloated much like my favorite Paradox game Stellaris does now.

The main criticism atm seems to be that the AI can be a bit weak if youre really good at the game, and there are some bugs here and there. But overall, the reception seems quite solid.

I will probably make a thread after Ive played it for a real amount of time, at least 50-100 h+ or more. The game only came out on Tuesday, and Im a “responsible” adult, so its not like I can give it a proper whirl that quickly.

What Im excited about, as someone whose favorite Paradox games are Stellaris, Crusader Kings 3, and Victoria 3, all for different reasons, is that EU5 seems much more like a simulation than a board game. EU4 always felt very gamey to me. Not meant as a diss; its just how it played. Whereas EU5 feels more like a real world with people in it. POPs are a big win in my book.

Then again some EU4 fans seem to really miss Mission trees but I never cared much for them. None of my fave paradox games have them.

You've gotta have a sigma grindset about this

[-] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Him winning is nice and awesome because free buses are cool and it's makes libs mad

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Winning is meaningless unless he does something with it. We'll see. If he fills his staff with Zionists like he promised then the win was irrelevant. If he makes transit free and food and housing accessible for everyone in new York, awesome. Remains to be seen

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Brad whatshis face who co-campaigned with him is a zionist. You'd be hard pressed to staff the NYC government with zero zionists. he just said it in the dumbest way possible, which is an unforced error he has made several times.

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

I don't believe that savvy politicians like Mamdani make unforced errors. If you make a career out of careful word choice then you need to be held accountable for those words. If you're a good enough speaker to be elected mayor of New York you're good enough to not make dumb mistakes. So the safer assumption is that it wasn't a mistake, because if it was a mistake then how many of the good things he said were also mistakes? Did he just accidentally stumble his way into being mayor by lucking into the right words for months, or is he actually good at speaking and intentionally saying what he says?

Can't have it both ways. The only way to know for sure is to see what he does.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

i don't mean in the moment. he's probably taking bad advice from dem lifers, especially post-obama phonecall. Errors in reasoning and strategy or appeasing the forces of evil are still moves i would call errors.

like the only one of his things that pissed off us that i think was well advised was the one where he doesn't want to be assassinated by the NYPD. everything else is unforced unless obama showed him a picture of his home from a drone or something we obviously wouldn't have any proof of.
