Of course this isn't news, neither for the Europeans, much less for the Global South, but seeing the rupture between the imperial core and its vassal States has a meaning, which I hope Westerners would be able to understand and veer things towards a new end, not fascism in Europe rising again.

The EU true believers I know are incapable of comprehending this. They are steadfast in their conviction that this is all just temporary.

I'm more surprised about how the majority of EU true believers aren't turning their guns against the US, but instead go into full imperial lackey for the US and see nothing wrong with that, but see everything wrong with standing up against it.

China is currently at a position of strength equal to the US towards the Soviet Union during the 1980s and the only regions in the world right now that are slowly considering China their friend is China, now including Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The US is currently threatening the whole world to ram their fists through everyone's faces and people are still praising it.

Slander, we are very inclusive in our excluding ways. Discrimination for the masses by the masses!

And this is some sort of new revelation? Are these Dutch folks named Rip Van Winkle?

[-] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 month ago

Dutch is the adjective for things from the Netherlands, and also the demonym for people from there. The demonym for Denmark is Dane and the adjective is Danish.

My bad. Are these Danes named Rip Van Winkle?

[-] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I doubt it; it would be odd if they were named after a fictional Dutch-American :)

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

confusing the Dutch and the Danes is funny though you shouldn't have corrected them

espcecially when those are fake countries. There is nothing in common between a limburger, a frisian and a zeelander. Totally different tribes.

[-] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

the correct spelling is zealand

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

this makes the joke 10x funnier

are you sure?

[-] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

fair point, i'll try to refrain from it next time

[-] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

What other US allies have stated this officially? Denmark is ahead of the curve.

America has been asserting its will be throwing around their economic might for decades, as long as I can remember. It's nothing new.

They only give a shit because the US is threatening to take their colony away from them.

~~Pot calling the kettle black~~Danes calling the Americans white.

[-] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

The legal framework for Greenland to declare independence has been in place for decades.

They're currently a self-ruling territory that is part of the Danish realm by choice. Not saying that forgives old colonialist crimes, but it hasn't been a Danish colony for a while now.

lomg ago i got the impression that this was the sole basis for countries signing onto the whole five-eyes surveillance network

Wow. Someone's wakey wakey!

Thank goodness the Dutch have never ever ever ever done this a bunch.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Well done!

Publicly announcing what everyone who's paying attention has known for the better part of a century at the EXACT time where it's the least likely to influence those in power is some excellent fucking spycraft!

What's next? They're going to point out that the hundreds of US military bases in foreign countries aren't there to help out the locals? 🙄🤦
