i cant wait for all the mainstream media not to call this an "unprovoked" and "illegal" invasion of venezuela

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Bit idea - buy a bunch of actual Yellowcake mix and slap a comical [Cartel del Sol Drugas] with Venezuelan flag on it. Grab attention by blowing on a vuvuzela.

Have a stand that says HAPPY HOLIDAYS! FREE DRUGS! Outside a local representative's office or on the sidewalk next to a store.

Really emphasize the powell-propaganda aspect of trump-feed

Obviously the death, destruction, and violation of sovereignty will be the worst part, but goddamn is it going to be infuriating listening to neoliberals and neocons who’ve spent the last 4 years saying the Russian invasion of Ukraine means Russians are orcs who need to be put down regardless of the cost engaging in the most tortured mental gymnastics to argue why the US invading a country that poses zero threat is justified.

[-] Flyberius@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

If this happens I hope the US gets utterly fucked.

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 82 points 1 day ago

I can only hope and pray that many amerikkkans die

We say it a lot, but the UN is so godamn feckless. No demand for the US to stand down, no urgent meeting to discuss intervention, no other militaries even gesturing that this is a bad look. Radio fucking silence. This is all happening in slow motion.

Has the Brazilian military been on alert? Or is everyone really going to sit back and watch, make a speech maybe, and then talk about how no one could've seen this coming?

[-] RondoRevolution@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

I doubt our military is on alert, it's honestly more likely that they'd welcome the US soldiers. And even if they were we literally can't afford confrontation with the US, last I checked we only have ammunition for a few hours of direct confrontation in a war.

Shit's bleak.

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The UN, theoretically, should be the greatest deterrent to colonialism, giving assembly and collective power to everyone who is not the hegemon.

You’d think that if countries valued their sovereignty, they would use all tools they have available to them to stop United States from going to war against a country without even a casus belli. Oil is literally an official reason stated by the adminc (I’m going to take a wild guess), where are the Gulf nations? Where’s the BRICS coalition?

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

The problem is that most countries are ruled by capitalists, who care more about themselves than their country's sovereignty.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 76 points 1 day ago

spoilerBut I also wish harm to the ruling class too.

[-] RamrodBaguette@hexbear.net 50 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Polls show just 30 percent of Burgerroids support this while 70 oppose. Granted, that's still 30 too many and an indictment of how our idleness has more or less given carte blanche to the ruling class to do whatever the fuck they want without maintaining even the barest democratic pretenses (whereas even our pathetic showing in 2003 against the Iraq War would probably get the White House to back down). So fair enough.

[-] Dr_Vindaloo@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 day ago

Sure, 70% "oppose" it in the same way that I oppose factory farming (I don't really care enough to make personal sacrifices and still eat whatever I want to). Having the Correct Opinion on paper isn't enough.

[-] RamrodBaguette@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

It's sort of the same thing with how support for Israel has dropped like a stone, especially but not exclusively among young and "young" voters, while our ruling class has only doubled down its support for it (albeit with a closer eye to PR and selective "restraint"). People feel comforted to know they aren't alone but it's not nearly enough. The powers that be can act however they want because, at the end of the day, most of us will post about how much we hate whatever they do, but will still go to work the next day.

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

It's also an illustration of how the US isn't a real democracy. They love to "spread" democracy and contrast "democracy vs communism", but because of capitalism, the people don't actually have a say in their affairs here. The people they elect are all from the same class and therefore generally have the same opinions when it comes to things that are important for US capitalism (so they may differ on gay marriage or abortion for example, but when it comes to imperialism they will all agree).

Yeah man I know the internet isn’t safe for leftist communication though so what do ya think? Carrier pigeons?

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

I prefer the anonymity of placing my messages in bottles and dropping them into the ocean. The mistress of the tides will guide them

[-] Red_October@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Good idea, comrade. Our dialectical materialism speaks to universal truth. Giving bottles of truth to the ocean means trusting Poseidon to spread our revolutionary message to those who need it at random.

Take another thousand men with you to the shores. We need 30 truth bottles from each man in those seas by 21:00 each day.

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Me too, but with amerikkkan war criminals instead of messages.

Pickling a guy and throwing him into the ocean is a kind of message.

Does Venezuela have good missiles or something... why do you think that? I'm no expert but I doubt it will be boots on the ground where Venezuelans can use their terrain advantage. I think it will be a mix of Gaza 2020s and North Korea 1950s where the US just uses the most advanced military tech in the world (and keeps it based at sea) to demolish infrastructure and... basically everything in a fit of crybullying.

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago

Gaza is tiny, and can be carpet bombed easily.

Korea was half occupied by the US, and while they did bomb somuch that pilots complained there were no more targets, the DPRK is still here.

Venezuela is big, considerably bigger than the korean peninsula, the whole thing is very mountains and covered in jungles.

A land invasion or even just a naval bombardment would be incredibly difficult, given that Venezuelas coasts consist of very tall mountains.

Venezuela has an airforce with relatively modern jets, from what I understand, as well.

So I don't think this will exactly be a cakewalk for the US

[-] fort_burp@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Ok yea that makes sense

"We're invading Venezuela" implies boots on the ground because a big bombing and missile campaign isn't "an invasion" otherwise

Trump's primary focus is always on audience perception. You don't declare war^[or whatever the hell we call it when it's not "officially" done by congress] right before the holidays, because everyone's gonna talk about it with their relatives! You do it right after and hope they shrug and ignore it.

is that what the announcement was
