I'm a mail carrier and we have one of these in our office. I don't care that it's ugly, the problem is that it's way too fucking big. I don't want to have to park this monstrosity. it's clearly designed for parcel delivery and nothing else. we needed an actual replacement for the LLV and this is not that

[-] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

it being for parcel delivery is just preparing for the future.

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

damn i didn't know it was that big

[-] Stalins_Spoon@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 month ago

What about those Mercedes vans that yall have

[-] D61@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

There is a specter haunting the Post Office, the specter of Amazon Sundays

[-] nfreak@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

I've been seeing these around and thinking the same. Like why are they so fucking massive, that must be such a pain in the ass

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

It actually is

Nice low front so you can a full view ahead.

Tall so you can walk normally in the cab and storage area

Hopefully has A/C and decent heating

If it's made out of cheap tractor parts like the old LLVs then even better

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Hopefully has A/C and decent heating

The USPS keeps getting fucked with their budget, so I doubt it lmao

[-] AstroStelar@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

They do have AC, the first batch pf vehicles was delivered a few months ago

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

in the future all vehicles will be goofy akira toriyama-ass shapes like this

[-] tocopherol@hexbear.net 41 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)
[-] Carl@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago

can't wait to ride one of these

reminds me of the nissan Scargo

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Getting hype as fuck for the tanks of WW3

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sloped armor is for nerds.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Round armor is probably better. The problem is manufacturing. You'd have to cast whole sections and repairs would be more difficult. It's a lot easier to stick flat pieces of armor at an angle.

I just wish WWI designs would come back with their goofy-ass shit like 12 person tank crews, tricycle towers, and 8 turrets. We will never see the creation of Bolos because physics is a meanie who says "No" to all the cool stuff.

[-] grendahlgrendahlgen@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I like the little mini tanks in wwI and wwII

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

Exactly what I was thinking of. Sand Land has some fun mechanical design.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I don't know what weapons WW4 will be fought with, but WW3 will be fought with Metal Slugs.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

WW4 will be fought with the Taranis tank from those Fuga games

[-] Blep@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

That doesn't look like a train

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This is for last mile delivery. But yes, a train would be dope for the main logistics stuff

Edit: IFF the rails got expropriated

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

If it was electric you could probably shave off the hood and make it more tramlike

[-] Edie@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm reminded of a video I watched recently where the youtuber talked about how when hit by an american truck with their big front grill people would get pushed over, or worse under, whereas with more "European" cars they would get scooped up on the hood and it was safer. Something to take into consideration.

Edit: not just bikes

Upvote just for the cat comment.

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah if it's got a little slope to it the person usually bumps around it

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The motorcycle (and now boat) channel Fortnine did a video where they did some math to estimate exactly how many more people are dying each year because of giant truck grilles, here.

apparently there's an electric version

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

They have to maintain both because many post offices are in places without adequate charging infrastructure, makes sense.

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

They make ones with solar on the roof, it's a neat little all in one package, just leave the vehicle a bit to charge

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

And the rest of us are STILL waiting for Aptera to get their crap together. Fuck it just let me buy one of those!

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

yeah that seemed very interesting, a cheap small trike car that can just run entirely on solar seems very peak

wonder if china has anything similar

[-] Lussy@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No, that’s not allowed we can’t have good things here, definitely not a cuter mailbox

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

"Good mail delivery box." (Pat the box)

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I wish, that would be cool

[-] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Unpopular opinion but peak car design is actually just a golf cart.

Why else does anyone persist with the world's worst sport. The people yearn for golf carts.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

peak car is actually the el camino because you get both a car and a truck

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

look at all tha tfucking functional storage

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

In Spanish they call it el el camino

(Not having a go at you for calling it the el camino that's its name, just poking fun at the auto manufacturers for naming their cars awkwardly, like the pajero)

[-] pinguinu@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Also the Nissan Moco that was sold in green lmao

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Lmaooo that's kinda cute though, call it a snot rod

[-] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

Holden doesn't even exist anymore.

it's over for utes

[-] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

I actually think it is adorable. But more importantly, it's fit for purpose.

[-] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Pixar lookin ahh vehicle

[-] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Looks like the popemobile

[-] standarduser@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

Reminds me of the flying car in cloudy with a chance of meatballs

[-] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

Its cool because cars have a personality and this ones is "the thinker".
