I was about to just ask "What are some of your favorite music?" but then I realized some of you are gonna start naming those popular celebrity-singer songs which isn't what I'm looking for. Because I find that songs that are part of other forms of media such as Movies and TV shows are really some of the highest of quality.

My Favorite ones (that I can remember, I'm sure there are good ones that I forgot about):

The Main Theme of The Expanse (TV) https://youtu.be/5Y4wuVfV5G4

The Main Theme of Interstellar (Movie) https://youtu.be/kpz8lpoLvrA

The Main Theme of Terminator 2 (Movie) https://youtu.be/1XblVVbqIHU

Baba Yetu - The Menu Theme of Sid Meier's Civilization IV (Video Game) https://youtu.be/IJiHDmyhE1A

Sogno di Volare - The Menu Theme of Sid Meier's Civilization VI (Video Game) https://youtu.be/WQYN2P3E06s

Main Theme of FTL: Faster than Light (Video Game) https://youtu.be/VJ817kvh_DM

Field of Hope and Dreams - Deltarune (Video Game) https://youtu.be/PhhGEA_317w

Megalovania - Undertale (Video Game) https://youtu.be/0FCvzsVlXpQ

The Opening Credits of Detroit: Become Human (Video Game) https://youtu.be/eZTasD9YzAo

The Main Theme of Game of Thrones (TV) https://youtu.be/s7L2PVdrb_8 (We don't talk about season 8 here :(

The Main Theme of Sucession (TV) https://youtu.be/77PsqaWzwG0 (Honestly, I didn't even finish the first season and kinda got bored, but the theme music was memorable for some reason)

That's my list of the music I can remember from the top of my head, what's on your list?

Good Bot. 😅

Disco Elysium, Twin Peaks, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo come to mind.

I also really like anything Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross put out for film scores

[-] SynopticVision@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The OST of Disco Elysium is so perfect and so essential to make up the atmosphere of Revachol, I honestly cannot imagine the game without hearing it's soundscape.

[-] cccc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Champloo is the gateway to Nujabes. It’s a beautiful world to get lost in.

Bebop is just really fucking good.

oh yeah for real, i went down the rabbit hole of nujabes and chillhop after discovering the anime

With so many great options, you went with purgatory music? :)

The Witcher 3: the first time you see that Priscilla is about to play, you're gonna think "here we go, this is gonna be super cringe", but then she plays The Wolven Storm, which is one of the most hauntingly beautiful sad songs anywhere, let alone in a video game! 🥲❤️

The main theme of the (super great) TV show White Lotus, specifically the theme song from the second season.

My small brain literally cannot comprehend how something so beautiful and genius can even exist. Pure perfection....

Oh and it blends super nice with this song, although it's not next in the album playlist. I always hear those two together.

[-] Ubettawerk@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago

The soundtrack to Kingdom Hearts is one of the best video game scores in my opinion

[-] mom@nom.mom 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

For video game music I really love the whole Transistor soundtrack (Darren Korb) and basically everything from Surviving Mars.

TV would probably have to be Kick Back, the theme from Chainsaw Man.

Edit to add: One Winged Angel But The Genre Keeps Changing is a lot of fun, especially if you know (and like) the original

[-] showmewhatyougot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Love Darren Korb, Bastion and Hades OSTs do it for me, they're great. Although I do feel that generally playing the game does play a lot on your interest on the sound track. I'd say my only exception is the DOOM soundtrack, never played the game but man, that album is awesome

All the openings and endings from Death Note and GTO (animes)

Rose of May from Final Fantasy 9 (video game)

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

That introduced me to Maximum the Hormone.. I still listen to it today almost 2 decades later.

Im amazed no one has mentioned Blade Runner. The 80s movie Flash Gordon is gloriously cheesy and fun-bad, but the Queen soundtrack is a classic banger!

Keeping in that line, Tron had a great soundtrack by Wendy Carlos. She also did Switched On Bach.

[-] Kerfuffle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

From games:

  1. Loop Hero OST is pretty amazing if you like that kind of music: https://piped.video/Vw6hcx8jUeY
  2. Crypt of the Necrodancer OST is also really good: https://piped.video/7Ks82gn2BqU
  3. Going back further (a lot further!) - I've always loved the music from ZANAC, especially the title theme: https://piped.video/fkmdItOQkKo . There are some pretty good remixes as well: https://piped.video/96aT-5h2P08 , https://piped.video/kQ1SNc3_VA8

  • Master Theater (Me And My Shadow (open source game nobody ever talks about))

  • All Saints Street OP (Chinese animated web show (also, not the Japanese dub opening))

  • Boss of Me (Malcom In The Middle OP)

  • Valley & The Great Fair (both track course songs from SuperTuxKart (Black Forest and Candela City respectively)

  • Team Star Boss Battle Theme (pokemon sc/vi)

I really liked the soundtrack to Westworld. And Doom Eternals. Deus Ex Human Revolution is great too

[-] fubo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Let's go back to 1982 for this bop, the theme from the side-scrolling arcade shooter Moon Patrol.

Mostly because of the huge number of really good remixes, covers, and oscilloscope weirdness that people have made from it ...

The opening to Zombie Land Saga Season 2, the first opening for Attack on Titan, the trailer song for GTA Online Heists, the Valentino combat music from Cynerpunk 2077, Jump up, Superstar and Honeylune Ridge Escape from Super Marjo Odyssey are just some of the songs I can think of right now

[-] Norgur@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

The whole soundtrack of Xenoblade Chronicles 2

[-] Ocelot@lemmies.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The whole soundtrack of Lineage II by Bill Brown is amazing. Also Jeremy Soule with morrowind and skyrim. Oh, and Halo (Martin O’Donnell) of course.

[-] sanataseva@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Ho boy, this could have been long. But here's just a few TV tracks:

"Junk" by Jane Air, from The Boys. Sounds like 1999-2000 rap rock with punk, but I can't understand most of it and it fucking STOMPS.

"White Widow" by Afterhours, from Mr. Robot. Just good hard rock with some tension that fit the scene well. There's the original Italian version out there as well.

"Something for your M.I.N.D." by Superorganism, from Legion. I absolutely hated the direction this show went beyond the first season, and I only watched the last season on some (bad) advice. This song had a trippy backdoor music video in one of the last episodes, which was easily the highlight. Lo-fi electropop with half-sung, half-spoken goofy (good) lyrics.

"The Box" by Fad Gadget, from The Americans. Paranoid as fuck 80s electropop. It has this blaring melody that will get into your head. The Americans has a reputation for its musical cues, and this was probably my favorite.

I have a favorite anime series called Star Blazers. I know I am carbon dating myself because that was a show from the late 70s to the early 80s.

Reminded me how much I liked Cristobal Tapia Da Veer's soundtrack work on Utopia, Humans, and The Girl With All The Gifts. Looks like he's done some more that I didn't know about so I'll have to check it out

[-] Mnemnosyne@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

A lot of the music from Sailor Moon.

Ai no Senshi

Moon Revenge

La Soldier

Golden Queen Galaxia.

And one of the few good things from the DiC dub of the series was the music.

Carry On

Only a Memory Away

Call My Name and I'll Be There

It's A New Day

Also some of the music from Ranma 1/2.

Kagayaku Sora to Kimi no Koe

Two Complex Thoughts

I've never been one to listen to that much music that's made for music; sometimes I'll catch something and like it, but mostly I run into music I like as part of other media I consume, so yeah, this kinda has made up the majority of the music I listen to. And since I used to watch a lot of anime (don't quite have enough time to keep up lately) a lot of my favorite songs are in Japanese and I don't understand any of it but I can sing along to several of them.

[-] breathless_RACEHORSE@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Bojack Horseman has one of the best openings in TV.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex has my favorite Anime themes (though tied with Cowboy Bebop)

I agree with Interstellar.

For video games, The Outer Worlds was a meh game with a great theme, Mass Effect's soundtrack was great, but I have to dip into two Licasarts classics for the best music- Curse of Monkey Island, and The Dig.

The Sopranos had a great opening theme. So did GoT.

As for movies, Pump Up the Volume had a killer soundtrack, as well as the original Ghostbusters.

If anyone would like to check out experimental electronic jazz, I suggest an album called Deep Breakfast by Ray Lynch. Then there is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, made famous by the movie The Exorcist.

Jean Michelle Jerre has done a couple of great albums, including Zoolookologie, Oxygen, and others.

Art of Noise is worth checking out. You've heard them, you just don't know you have.

Well, that's media music and a few "out there" suggestions. Enjoy!

Basically the entire soundtracks of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia and K-on! (both seasons and the movie) are 110% bangers for me. Also, the opening themes for Evangelion and Vision of Escaflowne.

Others have mentioned all my favorite movie soundtracks, but I feel like Tron bears repeating. I liked the soundtrack for the second Tron movie, but it honestly didn't compare to the original which still holds up as just gorram great music.

And then there's the opening theme for Firefly. That song was perfect for that show.

And I gotta give credit to the classics: Magnum P.I. and Knight Rider have slapping' theme songs, but the GOAT is, of course, Doctor Who.

ETA: forgot to mention Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts for video games.

Edit: my phone's keyboard does weird shit on Jerboa, including deleting random words. No clue why. Anyway, I noticed a missing word andfixedd it.
