The correct one, Niagara Launcher

[-] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

There's tons of search focused ones, which is weird to me. If you want a normal layout with folders then I suggest you go with Lawnchair: https://lawnchair.app/

wish i could buy one for me :((((

What is wrong with launcher repositories not placing a screenshot if their launcher in the readme.md

Because some people consider the readme to mostly text and informative. This one does link to the actual website, which does contain screenshots. To answer your question: nothing's wrong with it. 😉

That aside, I've been on Kvaesitso for quite a while, now, and it's quite nice. You kinda have to get over it being different from a lot of other launchers.

Fairphone is nice. Flashed /e/os on it, now its even without 99% google shit :D

[-] MrMobius@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

I use lineageOS personnally and you can install it without any google apps as well. And the updates are quite frequent.

[-] krashmo@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Have you had issues receiving group messages on e/OS? RCS is borked but I figured that would be the case. Not getting group texts is a problem though and I've tried every solution I can find but nothing seems to work.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 0 points 2 months ago

Can't tell as I don't use RCS.

I really like octopi launcher

Dragon Launcher. You'd be surprised of how well Radial menus actually work with touchscreens. It's great, you don't want to go back afterwards.

Edit: radial

Long time Nova user, trying out others now because the Pixel launcher is too boring.

Niagara for a scaled down ui. 8 apps on the home screen, rest is in a super easy to reach list on the edges of the screen. Currently on day 3 and liking it. Paid version is either €12 a year or €40 lifetime. Basically all the flashy stuff you see of it is locked behind the paywall.

Hyperion is good, pretty close Nova relative. UX needs tweaking. Dock and home screen are completely separated so you can open a folder in the dock and one on the home screen at the same time. Minor things like that.

Octopi I did a quick review of on the other site. Tl;dr navigation / interaction is kinda laggy (gestures, tapping, moving things), doesn't have google feed integration but customization is top tier, better than nova imo. I left it because of the interaction issues.

Smart Launcher is built around a search function. Not my thing so I moved on quickly. UI/UX is good though.

I got it configured how I want yesterday. Most important thing is to find and enable the setting that lets you resize widgets beyond what they want to be resized to. If your widgets don't want to be shrunk, that setting will make them shrink.

[-] 27Purple@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It's a Pixel-esque launcher that aims for "pixel, but more". I can't remember why I didn't stick with it which to me means it can't have ducked, but it didn't make a big impression.

[-] paequ2@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago
[-] angband@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I use the fossify launcher

[-] muxika@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I wish they were sold in the States at a more reasonable price. Murena's prices are ridiculous.

[-] JayDee@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah it's pricey. I'm on a fairphone 4 and that was easily over $700. I have at the same time had a very easy time replacing the screen when it broke, and have just stashed several of the more breakable components, which it's nice that I can do that super simply.

I don't think fairphones are much cheaper from fairphone directly, though I might be wrong. Overall, I don't game on my phone, and the fairphone 4 has been able to tackle all my needs pretty well without issue. Most of my gripes come from minor glitches or certain features lacked in lineageOS, but tbf, it's still a very solid OS despite those minor issues.

[-] Ashiette@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Kvaesitso is really nice ! And it's open source

[-] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 1 points 2 months ago

Dragon launcher is what I use, lawnchair is also alright

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 0 points 2 months ago

Just discovered graphene runs on my two year old Motorola. Very cool that they support multiple manufacturers.

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

So, I use Nova on my Galaxy Note 9. Nova asked me to allow ads. I just kept closing the message until it stopped popping up.

I don't see ads anywhere on my phone.

Where are the ads supposed to be? Or is the concern more data harvesting than actually displaying ads?

[-] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 0 points 2 months ago

The ads appeared at the top of the drawer for Me yesterday

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Ewww I just saw one, yeah. Thanks for answering too. I literally never use that feature though so I can probably just ignore them if that's the only place they are.

[-] maturelemontree@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

Is there something wrong with the Nova Launcher that I should know about?

[-] 27Purple@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

TL;DR: Sold off, dev team was (figuratively) slaughtered, OG dev is pretty much out of the picture, new owner is planning on injecting ads into the launcher and we basically know nothing else about the future of it. I.e they're turning it into a cash grab.

[-] maturelemontree@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

That's the whole reason I downloaded it was to get away from cash grab companies! Well I'm glad I found out, I'll try Lawnchair now.

[-] mattyroses@lemmy.today 0 points 2 months ago

Is it ads for paid users as well?

[-] 27Purple@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

They've said they're gonna honor existing paid users but there are no guarantees.

Edit: They confirmed they're honoring existing prime owners, so we're good for now. New users face $5 subscription.

[-] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 1 points 2 months ago

It's got ads now

I'd like to buy a Fairphone, but the missing IP68 rating is concerning to me. I really don't want to have to worry about my phone dying if I get into a rainstorm for example, especially while traveling.

[-] waterproof@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

So I have a story for you. I own a fairphone 3+ for a little more than 5 years now.

Recently, while doing the dishes, my phone accidentally slipped in the sink. I protected it with a phone case and a screen protection, but still, panic ensued.

I removed the battery as fast as possible, dried it up as best as I could, restarted it, and it worked just fine.

Well, most of it at least. The jack port took some damage but ended up fixing itself (???) and the usb- charge port refused to charge the phone unless it was tilted a specific way.

Doesn't matter, I ordered a new usb-c module for less than 30€, and replaced it (i'm not really good hardware-wise, but fortunately, it was pretty easy). Now it works like a charm.

I feel like an event like this would have been a death sentence for most other phones, and even if it wasn't, my clumsy ass keeps dropping my phone, so it might have been even sooner.

So far, this phone just refuses to die. It might be slightly outdated and buggy at times (apparently it got better in the last iterations), but it is still very much usable with no critical failure yet.

[-] Schorsch@feddit.org 0 points 2 months ago

Good luck to you for the next decade. I have a Fairphone for my job and it's an absolute pile of (responsibly produced) garbage. It would be way easier to use a Pixel for 10 years than this sluggish outdated mess is.

[-] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 2 points 2 months ago

See, My trick is that My last phone was even slower and more outdated, so this new one still feels like the future. And when I upgrade to the next model in 2036 I'm gonna be having such a good time. It's all thanks to the power of being poor

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 0 points 2 months ago

bring back USB3.0/DP out on the FP7 and I'll bite. The FP6 going to USB2.0 screwed the pooch for me.

[-] titanicx@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

I just tried total launcher. Love most of it, but still trying to figure out things like multiple docks, etc.

[-] ladnopivo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I'm on the same train. I recently replaced Nova with Total Launcher and still trying to figure out how to do stuff with it. My home screen is evolving day by day, but generally it has a steep learning curve. Do you maybe know of any good online resources for Total Launcher apart from the official blogspot?

[-] titanicx@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Not a fucking clue. But so far it's great.
