He was dead when we found out, how the fuck would he come back in time?

[-] Shrubbery@piefed.social 78 points 4 weeks ago

Being able to time travel implies he could also jump forward in time (e.g. to check his posthumous reputation).

[-] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 34 points 4 weeks ago

But why does Stephen Hawking not being able to time travel mean time travel doesn't exist?

[-] corvi@piefed.social 46 points 4 weeks ago

Probably a reference to his “time travelers party”, a tongue-in-cheek way he used to suggest backwards time travel is impossible

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 26 points 4 weeks ago

Maybe no one came to his party because they knew he was on the list

[-] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Or maybe the time travelers went back and faked his name onto the list as a prank.

[-] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 weeks ago

Ah right, so they would have given him the technology to do so i guess is what it's implying

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 7 points 4 weeks ago

Why would they do that, they know he's on the list.

Going forward is sadly the only way we can time travel. I explained this to Stephen in a couple weeks.

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yeah...a time traveller would be able to jump ~~forward~~ less backward in time to check that.

But Stephen Hawking wasn't a time traveller, he just wanted time travellers to visit him.

[-] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago

I want to jump over this time period to get a better time in future.

[-] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

Well, all you need to do is travel at a significant fraction of the speed of light. That will let you fast-forward the rest of non-relativistic reality. Then it's just a matter of slowing down again.

[-] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

Sounds very simple, thank you for that information.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 96 points 4 weeks ago

as someone else said: now his time travel experiment is worthless, cause there’s a very good reason no one from the future wanted to go party with him

[-] bonenode@piefed.social 45 points 4 weeks ago

How would he even go about removing it. Its not like "the files" are a stack of random paper pages in a safe somewhere.

[-] Maiq@piefed.social 45 points 4 weeks ago

He could go back in time and give his caretaker a note to give to him a week before they met that said "And STAY AWAY from that Epstein... He's a bad egg!".

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 17 points 4 weeks ago

But he’s dead not a time traveler.

[-] mkwt@lemmy.world 17 points 4 weeks ago

Which theory explains why he has not accomplished the above.

[-] TheFogan@programming.dev 12 points 4 weeks ago

I think the point is he was attempting to reach out to time travelers... or skeptically making fun of the idea with the time travelers party that no one showed up for.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 23 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

If you were a time traveller, would you want to go back in time to hang out with someone mentioned in the Epstein files?

This all proves that time travellers are real, because they didn't go to his party knowing about his Epstein links.

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 weeks ago

Are you saying Maiq is a Liar?

[-] Orygin@sh.itjust.works 41 points 4 weeks ago

Was he implicated in nefarious shit?
Afaik Epstein had a thing for physics and other physicists are in the files because he liked the subject.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

Lawrence Krauss is one who is definitely not innocent based on his disgusting messages.

Yeah, there's all kinds of names in there, but not in a bad context.

[-] Orygin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

There's even the manual for bash since it was probably installed somewhere on his machine/servers

[-] Azrael@reddthat.com 28 points 4 weeks ago

Does anybody actually believe that Stephen Hawking was involved in the illegal activities?

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 19 points 4 weeks ago

I believe that he was probably a sexual person in some form and he probably had money so maybe he might have paid for sex. But I have no idea really.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 25 points 4 weeks ago

Another factor here is that Epstein was obsessed with physics and being friends with physicists.

While Epstein was always a monster. He could hide it around certain people.

But from everything I've read, the monster always comes out. And we all know what being Epstein's friend eventually entails.

[-] Azrael@reddthat.com 16 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

That's pure speculation. Your argument is what is referred to as "guilt by association". Your argument has no basis. It wouldn't hold up in court.

[-] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

These people don't care. I got downvoted to hell by saying the same thing. Apparently factual evidence isn't the norm in here.

[-] Azrael@reddthat.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

You're probably right. A story is more important than facts to them.

Maybe in his earlier life. He was married more than once and had three children.

His name does appear in the Epstein files, but he was never actually accused of anything related to Epstein. To say that Hawking was a pedophile is speculation at best.

Maybe no one showed up to his time travel party cuz everyone knew he was a creep.

[-] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 17 points 4 weeks ago

he did, but that is now a seperate timeline that we are not living in

[-] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 17 points 4 weeks ago

Doesn’t that just mean he never figured it out? Doesn’t mean it’s impossible for everyone forever.

[-] harrison_fnord@reddthat.com 12 points 3 weeks ago

Didn't he also cheat on his wife with his caretaker?

[-] xx3rawr@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

And his movie just framed it as something like "needing" to travelling away with the nurse.

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 11 points 4 weeks ago

Is it though? There's the whole causality argument, where if time travel does get invented in the future, then you can only travel back to that moment

[-] homes@piefed.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

Irony: he authored those very papers, so his name is all over them

[-] Heikki2@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

What if time travelers didn't want to travel back bc he was in the files?

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Edit: Joke already got made and I shoulda checked.

[-] Cattail@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Well hawking died before time travel was invented. Now time travelers probably visited hawking while he was on Epstien Island

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Wait I thought it was someone else sharing the same name?

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 8 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, the dude really was quite shitty on several personal accounts

[-] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

He traveled forward to ADD his name to give additional notoriety to the files like a Chad.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 4 weeks ago

Sphinx has zero logic to their words

[-] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 5 points 4 weeks ago

Stymied by being dead.

[-] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 weeks ago

That is hard truth.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

Maybe that's why the time travellers didn't show? I know I wouldn't knowing what I know now.
