Somebody here said something like, "Can't wait for libs to tell me I'm responsible for a Vance presidency because I refuse to vote for this ghoul." I think about that every time he opens his mouth. Can't wait for all the milquetoast liberal pushback against Newsom's despicable rhetoric to melt away into "Blue no matter who" the minute he is coronated by the plutocracy.

[-] mrfugu@hexbear.net 40 points 1 week ago

I have an inkling of hope that we won’t see a repeat of that narrative, especially if we’re dealing with poocum newsom. Chuck and Jeffies have really dropped the ball in terms of being an effective controlled opposition IMO the average lib has finally lost faith in democrats.

We’ll still see all those libs go “welp I guess I gotta vote for this guy” because they can’t fathom a nonbinary decision but I think the vitriol towards those who can’t stand the dem candidate will be much lower than it was for Kamala (blue sky not included)

[-] hector@lemmy.today 22 points 1 week ago

They seemingly haven't though. At least judging by the people I've talked to, in person, and online, people seem about as deluded as ever, trusting the suits on tv blaming everyone else for their losses in 2024.

It three presidential elections with the worst possible choices as candidates in a row as the "safe" choice didn't win them over, it will take something else to bring them around.

It will take a barnstorming campaign, with populist rhetoric and the energy that goes with that, by an aggressive forceful candidate backed by organized groups and a slate of candidates up and down the line. And the odds of getting that are near zero it seems. Even without thinking of assassinations, that we would have to think about if it got popular, but at first we could do the barnstorming in person, at some point would need remote speeches, and our own security. Turn down secret service protection if you get the nomination, or relegate them away from the candidate to use as shields.

turning a big dial taht says "Transphobia" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

The audience loudly boos no matter how far up I turn the transphobia dial.

[-] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago

Uh oh, have you tried turning it up to 11 yet?

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

I even built a new transphobia machine and they're still mad!

[-] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

This calls for swift action, let’s try turning the homophobia dial up.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 81 points 1 week ago

Newsom wants to talk about housing costs? lmao

Like he and his friends aren't the fucking problem.

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 51 points 1 week ago

They always bring up cost of living issues when somebody dares to suggest that maybe we shouldn't hunt minorities for sport, but ofc that does not mean they will budge an inch on being fiscally to the right of Thatcher.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

I feel like if he is actually just tired of the issue he could just get it over with and give trans people rights.

But most of all these ghouls love to talk about how there hey would rather talk about economic issues than pronouns when they really don't. If they actually wanted to talk about populist economic issues they could just do that. Nobody is interrupting Newsom mid-sentences as he talks about expropriating the landlords.

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 28 points 1 week ago

indeed. not being "bogged down" by these issues is as easy as just extending universal civil rights to exist to everyone, instead of getting out a triangulation device to calculate what civil rights you can deprive which minority groups of and still be viable at the ballot box.

apparently newscum believes he can achieve his goals while purging the trans community and the unhoused.

tbh it was a tactical error from Kamala to keep doing that two-hour speech where she ranked all the pronouns at every rally

[-] RION@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago

Should've farmed that out to nl-smug that'd be banger content

[-] miz@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

thinking about that time a protester interrupted her discussion of 'zir' and was met with a snappy "I'm speaking"

culturally normal

gesticulates wildly

HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT PASSES FOR NORMAL IN THIS FUCK OF A SHIT?

[-] miz@hexbear.net 50 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

normal is when a politician personally confiscates everything from a destitute person while grinning for the cameras

[-] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago

Normal is when you're ruled by a clan of pedophiles who face no repercussions for their crimes.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 66 points 1 week ago

More focused on tabletop issues, things that really matter — the stacking of stress in terms of the electricity bills and childcare costs and health care and obviously housing costs.”

Lmao they can't and won't even do that. They're just pivoting from being the republican lite party to the republican party 2 the spectre of Reagan Rises

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 35 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I thought Kamala was Reagan 2, what with the whole liz Cheney thing. This seems more like a pre-sequel kinda thing. Alt-universe Reagan. Just like my Marvel "what if" slop soypoint-1 soypoint-2

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago

it's been 13 terms of ronald reagan or whatever i'm not counting.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

Let's see:

  • Truman (MIC Reagan)
  • Eisenhower (Cold warrior Reagan)
  • Kennedy (Himbo Reagan)
  • Johnson (Nancy Reagan)
  • Nixon (Not Reagan, too aware. Maybe police state Reagan?)
  • Ford (Pardoning your boys Reagan/Brewski Reagan)
  • Carter (Religion Reagan)
  • Reagan (By your powers combined I am Presidentman)
  • Bush (Not Reagan, the ghoul behind)
  • Clinton (Politely Racist Reagan)
  • Dubya (Texas Reagan)
  • Obama (Black Reagan/Grown in a CIA vat Reagan)
  • Trump (Less Sexy Reagan)
  • Biden (In it for the love of the game Reagan)
  • Trump (More Senile Reagan)

Did I get it right?

This is the classic

"Let's talk about issues that really matter, like housing prices."

"What are you gonna do about housing prices?"

"Fuck off."

[-] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 59 points 1 week ago

"moderate" republicans when they see a 99.9% hitler democrat: "why would i pick 99.9% hitler over 100% hitler? 99.9% hitler is still too woke"

I don't remember a Democrat mentioning LGBT issues since Biden said there were at least 3 genders. Is he talking about their most popular AOC and Mamdandi or something? They don't want to soullessly emulate the people who get votes?

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 52 points 1 week ago

Technically they do want to soullessly emulate the people who get votes. They saw how Mamdani got elected on emphasizing affordability issues and now Newsome and his ilk want to glom onto that messaging without actually offering actual solutions to those issues.

[-] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago

There's a bitter humor in "okay, Mamdani got traction with affordability rhetoric... Let's see..."

"TRANS ISSUES DON'T MATTER TO POOR PEOPLE!"

Gavin “No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBTQ community” Newsom

[-] 9to5@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago

Gavin "Kill all the homeless" Newsom is our most viable candidate for president but obviously tankies cant see reason.

[-] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Gavin “No one should live” Newsom isn’t just the most viable candidate, but also the most progressive one.

On the plus side this sort of talk will definitely mean he won't end up president. On the downside they're pushing him so hard that he'll definitely be forced through the primary so we'll end up with 4 more years of whatever goon the GOP puts forward

For every do gooder they lose in the city, they will pick up two nazis in the suburbs! /s

The mythical swing voters, yes, Americans really want to be assfucked by big monied corporations without consent, but just with kinder gentler words and government subsidized lube for the deserving. Crude analogy or no it fits.

We are doomed with these guys in charge and somehow people still trust them.

The culturally normal thing is that my family, friends, colleagues and strangers all treat me like the woman I am and no one is losing their mind when I use the women's toilet.

[-] moss_icon@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Democrats continue to be the most spineless fucking eejits in the world.

And the liberals will continue to scream at minorities that we need to unconditionally support them so they can have their brunch and get their TikTok likes.

[-] miz@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

their real job is to prevent a left opposition and destroy solidarity and they are very, very good at it

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

"Tabletop issues instead of divisive identity politics" is the latest neoliberal shibboleth from Davos this year, in case you were wondering. I've heard that phrase come out the mouths of libs in the US, Canada, and the UK all in the last month.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

And somehow the conformist sheep and their constant calls for the mass extermination of anyone who isn’t a straight white man ISN’T divisive identity politics?

Isn't this the same dude who was trying to start doing podcasts with alt right shitheads last year? This kind of nonsense is on brand for him at this point.

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago

Culturally "normal". Hmm, yes, so brave.

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. 6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
