What's really interesting is China is making these advancements just in time for oil prices to crash the global economy. While the rest of the world is paralyzed, China will just keep advancing faster and faster. It really is the Chinese century.
China is still the world’s largest oil importer, and it’s not close. They import more than the next 2 combined (US and India). Heavy industry can’t be electrified as easily as other things, if at all. An oil crisis would hit China very hard.
An oil crisis will hit everyone very hard, but it would have hit China so much harder just a few years ago. They're in a better position to weather this storm than basically anyone else.
China also exports their oil production which they've now asked companies to stop.
