This shit is funny ngl, feel bad for the contractor who got shot tho. These fucking losers really think their money and their social standing is gonna keep them safe

From this old article

What I came to realise was that these men are actually the losers. The billionaires who called me out to the desert to evaluate their bunker strategies are not the victors of the economic game so much as the victims of its perversely limited rules. More than anything, they have succumbed to a mindset where “winning” means earning enough money to insulate themselves from the damage they are creating by earning money in that way. It’s as if they want to build a car that goes fast enough to escape from its own exhaust.

They are scared, they have no idea what they're doing, their money can't protect them from their own ignorance. We will win.

Reminds me of survival of the richest

Also the whole story about how some of them got a some professional opinions about keeping their mercs in line and when they came back with "just be friends with them" they collectively said no about asked about bomb collars.

Yup, from that same old article (sorry if that's what you already meant)

The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers – if that technology could be developed “in time”.

I tried to reason with them. I made pro-social arguments for partnership and solidarity as the best approaches to our collective, long-term challenges. The way to get your guards to exhibit loyalty in the future was to treat them like friends right now, I explained. Don’t just invest in ammo and electric fences, invest in people and relationships. They rolled their eyes at what must have sounded to them like hippy philosophy.

They are so high on their own supply of "the only realistic way to win is through sociopathy" that they don't even consider not being ghouls, even when it's logical and would save them

"the only realistic way to win is through sociopathy"

I don't think these people are playing at sociopathy, I think they actually are sociopaths and have embraced it; I don't make this as a dig at people suffering from sociopathy, I mean that these people are also sociopaths and rather than try to overcome it have embraced it instead as something that's given them wealth and power.

To be fair. It seems like a skill than can be developed. I have not partied with alot of upper class people. The ones i have treat exploitation and domination as a game or a virtue. They are brought up trained in it. The way we treat sharing as a virtue because it helps us survive, that helps them survive. Plus they do way too many drugs. So that has to help the process.

If anyone can remember the episode I would be super interested in listening

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

It was like...2021 or so. I recall it not being rhe main thing they were discussing, he had some book out, but it came up briefly and I was like 'OH ITS THE BUNKER ARTICLE GUY'

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yup that's exactly it. Where brought him into like a compound's round table. Douglas R.

Edited the last initial cause I saw the other comment had the correct name.

Ok but to be fair the typical car does go fast enough to escape it's own exhaust unless it's standing in traffic

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

Yeah but eventually the pollution finds you in the end because that carbon monoxide doesn't disappear

agony-soviet guess where they built their bunker-village. guess again because they didn't build it, of course its a scam reselling cold-war fallout shelters. guess again because its not even old private bunkers.

they're literally on a deactivated military base. now, i'm no expert on int'l nuclear plans but if i'd even bothered removing bases that closed from my target list (which i really dont need to do if i have a huge heap of missiles), i'd probably put one back on when sat-photos show it's in use again putin-wink

nuclear survival tip doggirl-smart move to a place that is liable to get bombed, on purpose

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
