With a steady lead in the polls and a healthy war chest of political donations, the Conservative Party is rolling out a trio of new advertisements that are being viewed as aiming to redefine and soften Pierre Poilievre's image and messaging.

Is this like when Stephen Harper tried to demonstrate he that he was a real human?

[-] girlfreddy@mastodon.social 17 points 1 year ago

@weew @sik0fewl

Those were some fun vest-filled times.

@huiccewudu

Oh gawd. I'd forgotten about that.

What a fucking embarrassment he was.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago

This is, uh, before he signed away our rights to China, right? He was an embarrassment before that?

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

He was an embarrassment long before that.

"farewell, fellow human, son of mine, in this authentically staged photo-op as you go to human-school. actual-humans exchange human emotions through a physical gesture of some sort. perhaps a handshake? yes. a handshake. the human photographers will surely document this actual-human interaction between myself (a human) and my son (also, a human) and the people of this country will finally embrace me as an actual human."

(narrator: humans don't shake their sons' hands when they drop them off for the first day of school…)

There is a reason why I can say Squinty McProudBoy and everyone knows whom I am talking about. His only concern is with his white supremacist "base" and his "Trudeau bad" as his only plan on governing Canada.

[-] Bo7a@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 year ago

With a steady lead in the polls

Is this true? I have disconnected myself from a lot of political media for the summer while working in the bush, and this caught me by surprise. What the fuck?

[-] girlfreddy@mastodon.social 34 points 1 year ago

@Bo7a @sik0fewl

Yup. People are pissed at Trudeau and the Liberals so automatically turn to the Cons instead of, you know, the NDP or Greens ... like we have a two-party system or something.

*eyeroll*

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

If people are pissed at Justin, it's because Milhouse finally made his molehill into a mountain.

[-] knitwitt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It seems to me people like PP because of their stance on inflation, which for most is the single biggest issue facing Canada today. Cons are proposing budget cuts, and the NDP are proposing a grocery store tax as solutions. People will probably be more favorable towards whichever solution they think will be the most effective.

[-] villasv@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago

People will probably be more favorable towards whichever solution they think will be the most effective.

But they think that budget cuts will be effective because they're conservatives, so in the end it's a circular argument.

[-] Splitdipless@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

If removing gas tax is any indication in Ontario, and gas prices stayed the same because the price was still what the market could bear, cutting taxes on grocery stores just means that the stores make more profit. The NDP idea of taxing profit "seems" more effective, but if anyone familiar with Hollywood accounting will say that profits will disappear before taxes are properly paid. They need to tax income.

[-] zephyreks@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

They need to tax income based on standard profitability rates.

This is so infuriating. But so true. Thanks! I think...

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Aggregate polling has CPC at 37% +/-4% with the LPC at 29% +/-3%.

[-] Bo7a@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 year ago

Thanks. I guess I will have to try to mobilize more people to get off their ass and go vote. So many of the people I know just don't care enough to vote. But maybe the bitcoin and convoy-fellation facts about this pile of shit will help motivate more.

I have no hope that it will... But if I don't try, I will hate myself.

[-] Splitdipless@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

Remind them that there are exactly 0 safe CPC members now for abortion rights due to recent voting (yes, private member bills are still showing up to try and remove rights, but this time Squinty is in charge and all his members are allowed to vote 'with their conscience' now).

[-] TSG_Asmodeus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I tend to use this to help motivate people. That's over half of them, and two years ago.

[-] Frederic@beehaw.org 19 points 1 year ago

Does this douche supported the ottawa's truckers?

[-] Powerpoint@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 year ago

Yes, he's a garbage politician with no good ideas and no real world experience. He would've crashed our economy with his Bitcoin fiasco.

[-] Splitdipless@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

Literally stood at the side of the road and got his picture taken handing them Tim Hortons and thanking them for coming.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

It's astounding how when the API fiasco happened, it seems that most Reddit users who migrated to Lemmy were predominantly Leftist, leaving a bunch of copycat subs behind that are almost exclusively alt-right shitholes. The difference in discourse over PP is night and day.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 year ago

/r/canada has always been a shit hole.

Did you check /r/onguardforthee?

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I honestly don't know from one day to the next which one's going to be an absolute fascist embarrassment to the country while STILL complaining we're too leftist socialist creeps.

It seems daily we'd see

  • no, people get rights. It's part of not being a dick
  • see? This sub got too woke and commie reeeeeee

... And it becomes exhausting trying to discuss amid all but actual feces being flung.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

r/onguardforthee isn't the copycat type of sub I mean. r/canada_sub i'm pretty sure is almost entirely populated by ragebaiting bots because no one ever actually replies to comments. There's like several different r/canada_housing subs now? Truly a clusterfuck over on reddit these days.

If Canada elects this career grifter and fake family man poseur, I am genuinely done with this country. I don't think I can take another rightwing government at a time in history when we desperately need a party for the working class.

The last thing this country needs is yet another white male cishet christian fiscal con telling us what the fuck we need. "Everything is broken." Yeah, because your donors own all our hard work, you muppet.

I will genuinely move to Europe or something.
