oh wow nice! i had a health emergency and couldt make the last one. i like how far out the date is i feel like every recent protest has been so last minute.
FOR REAL
So many "last-minute ones" for me as well. I don't know if it's the area or what...
Ikr? Why are like 99% of these rallies last-minute? Like if there was one in say, Helsinki on Sunday or on Monday at 14:00 (hypothetically), I could buy a ferry ticket and be ready. But not like fucking "oh it's in 30 minutes". Or such rallies elsewhere in Europe. UKKK doesn't count since I need a visa and I doubt I'd be allowed entry.
Oh God yes.
It's with my org as well except this time it isn't even entirely their fault.
This is if you are in the area, of course, but if you want to fly here, do so (if you so choose, of course).
wish an amtrak ticket wasn't >$200 one way
One way?
That's criminal...
I have a long distance to travel but yeah... nearing $500 round trip isn't gonna work for me and I'm not cramming into an airplane instead
See if you can get in touch with a local org that's going as a group, usually they'll ask that you pay what you can for the bus ticket but it won't be full price if you don't have the money
Good idea. I expect I can afford the bus ticket just fine, but amtrak is $$$ for a lot of trips unfortunately
Wish I knew more comms to cross-post this to...
The folks over at midwest.social might be into it? They aren't anywhere near as active as we are, but it's far enough out that it might catch a few people in time.
Perhaps. We'll see.
But anyone willing to come would be much appreciated. This is in Washington D.C., mind you.
CMV: Holding big political rallies isn't doing anything to move the needle on issues and this energy would be better spent organizing local BDS actions or pressure campaigns close to home.
What if it is close to home though? I agree someone could use their efforts and funds for something better if they aren't close by. I think big shows of support or opposition by people can be useful for a few reasons, it helps people on the fence or hesitant to express their view feel more comfortable being open which can inspire further action, it's invigorating to be part of a demonstration which is important when the spirit is crushed by the awareness of atrocities, and it can be useful for meeting and organizing with people. If a large number turn out it also shows people around the world that the US isn't entirely in support of Israel, which can help encourage people.
No, it does, and this is related to that anyway.
I can already see the Fox News spin on this
Optics shouldn't matter. We're not liberals.
Wahoo, organized a big caravan with some comrades.
Good job!
Do stuff like the Canary Mission cause any concern?
I don't think they'll appear here but they might.
Good that you know about them, at least.
