The quoted piece is called "unfinished painting" , by keith haring. He left it unfinished on purpose, because he was dying of fucking AIDs during the height of the epidemic. The painting is a commentary on the aids epidemic. The unfinishedness is the point.

Original tweeter poster it as an example of art that moved her, asking people to post art that moved them.

Donnel here put "unfinished painting" through an AI to "finish it", just out of pure malice (not a blue check. Not getting anything out of it). And made what might be the best piece of bait ive ever seen.

Like evil. Hes going to hell. But masterclass evil.

People are pointing out that people are reacting to this like people react to "Who's afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue" which to them proves that its subversive art.

And honestly... i cant deny they sort of have a point?

I realize im risking starting a struggle session here lol i just find the thought so fascinating.

I guess the art is in the trolling though, not the AI.

Likely, more people are going to learn about this piece as the result of the troll than at any point in the last ten years. Especially in the wake of COVID, art like this carries real power.

I consider it a net good, in so far as it is both raising the profile of a compelling message and illustrating the fumbling pointless mess that is modern AI art.

Extra bonus points because the top left corner has what is very obviously abstract representations of people in various states of celebration or play. The AI remainder has none of that. Stripping the life out of a piece of artwork in every sense.

The vandalization and restoration of Who's afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue resulted in a clear area where they couldn’t match the pigment. So it’s kind of fitting, but in the opposite way where the faulty restoration is now the thing being reacted to. Meaning the people criticizing it aren’t actually missing some hidden or non-obvious artifact of expertise.

God, I spent so much time staring at this just waiting for the Loss meme to reveal itself.
