This smells like some suit's stupid idea where everyone was afraid to tell them it was a stupid idea and they got carried away.

I have no doubt in my mind that this will quickly disappear as soon as a location accidentally sells 1¢ cheeseburgers for an entire day due to something glitching out in the system.

Or better yet someone hacking it.

the only surge pricing I want is $1 bottles of Surge

No way that works for a fastfood restaurant that's very frequently going to be placed near other restaurants. I'm just gunna' drive to another drive-thru restaurant dude. I'm not paying your fucking prices. Unless they all do it, I guess.

imagine being stuck in the drive thru behind some asshole and watching your chicken sandwich's price increase by $5

Oh, crap. I hadn't even thought of that. I wonder if Wendy's overlooked it too. I predict this..,.

Wendy's institutes surge pricing. A few weeks later some hog stewing in his car in the drive-thru gets irate that his burger is going to cost an extra $5. He goes into road rage mode and he is particularly angry at the person of color in the first car in line who is "too slow". Bullets fly. People die. Wendy's (and other companies) quietly cancel surge pricing.

I hate digital menus so fucking much. They're always jumping around and cycling through so you can't read the menu, and half the time they're just showing ads for the place you're already at! Also fuck qr code menus, never eating at a place that uses those.

Also they keep saying that prices will raise and lower depending on demand, but there's no way in hell prices will actually drop compared to the current baseline right?

[-] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

I never minded the QR code menus because of how nasty regular menus are

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

Maybe it's my inner luddite but I just want a hard copy menu. I'm also distrustful of random qr codes. Maybe it's irrational but shrug-outta-hecks

[-] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 years ago

i have half a mind to slap some qr code stickers over such menus and send people to goatse and rick roll

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 years ago

So I'm guessing this means they've already started increasing prices and they'll just "announce" that they're doing it next year.

[-] MedicareForSome@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

This would play so much better if they just raised prices and framed it as a discount during low-volume times.

i look forward to the demise of another shitty fast food chain

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
