if people are turning to whippet abuse they are battling depression and substance abuse in general. These peeps are self medicating, and need help, so of course let's instead get rid of the medication they use while succumbing to the side-effects of a brutal society.

Homemade whipped cream industry in shambles

[-] Spongebobsquarejuche@hexbear.net 25 points 9 months ago

Just a reminder prohibition doesnt work. And prolonged use of nitrous will effect your vitamin b absorption.

[-] whoops@hexbear.net 5 points 9 months ago

prohibition doesnt work

Why not? In what contexts? Seems a bit ahistorical to claim that universally.

Prohibition in the US isn't a good example to draw from. Alcohol was an almost universal drug that could be made easily, and industrial production of it existed. The push for prohibition was predominantly a feminist movement led by women. It was almost immediately undermined by politicians, former liquor producers, and organized crime.

There are many illegal things or substances that prohibition seems to prevent the distribution of. But again, I don't think the drug industry in the US is actually prohibited. If anything it's managed by law enforcement, who have no interest in solving the problems, since that would eliminate their position

Some good advice On this article including to discharge the canister into a balloon first so you don't freeze or puncture your lungs. Never done this drug before though.

Prohibition will definitely work this time, guys. Just one more try, please broh. I promise I won't only prosecute black people, please 🙏 😌

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 3 points 9 months ago

Also blasting straight from the canister is a real small dose and you need to unscrew a thing and screw another thing on and it's a pain. Fill a balloon.

[-] whogivesashit@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah 100% balloons are the best way comrades.

[-] Sickos@hexbear.net 15 points 9 months ago

Wait, but, I legitimately love making whipped cream in the nifty whipped cream doohickeys

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 17 points 9 months ago

one for me, one for whipped cream. one for me...

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I learned about this when I was a prep-cook at a Perkins. A new guy was hired to help me out and he flipped out when I was showing him the cooler and there was a whole rack of whipped cream cans on the shelf.

We spent most of that day wasting cans of whipped cream.

After that they stopped buying the pressurized cans and bought whipped cream in paper cartons.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 9 months ago

I worked at a place where the owner and I would fill a balloon in the dry storage room and blast off.

i was blown away when i discovered they sell huge canisters of this stuff now

used to be either you get a 24 pack of the tiny canisters from smoke shop or some guy you know got a hold of a medical grade tank

take vitamin b supplements and use no more then once (one session) a month! have a trip sitter, use a balloon, make sure you take a breath of air between each hit!!

[-] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 9 months ago

Notably it appears to interfere with b12 by changing the oxidation state or something. It depletes reserves.

So you can't just supplement and be good, as Des mentions you need breaks.

I would suggest a less frequent use pattern though, it's probably better to binge a week or something and then give a good long break of several months. I think an abundance of caution is warranted around nervous system nutrients. Believe you me you absolutely do not want neuralgia, it's the worst pain I've ever experienced (mine is from arthritis alas).

[-] glans@hexbear.net 2 points 9 months ago

what about b12 injections?

[-] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 9 months ago

idk enough one way or the other

Prolonged abuse of nitrous leads to B vitamin deficiency, which leads to severe nerve damage. It takes a lot of nitrous, but it can be veeerrrry addictive. Someone left alone with a whole tank to themselves for a week can really fuck themselves up.

[-] Des@hexbear.net 2 points 9 months ago

nitrous oxide depletes it in the body. B-6 and B-12. prolonged useage can cause nerve damage because of that depletion. otherwise it's a safe gas as long as you make sure to include oxygen

holy shit when did this change... ~~2.2~~ 3.3 liters!

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 13 points 9 months ago

Let us huff jenkem

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 13 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I am hopeful that getting these bills signed into law, hopefully soon, that we will actually begin to see the issue of nitrous oxide abuse hopefully go down because again, that is what our goal is, is that we don’t want to necessarily criminalize folks

whippet is a type of dog...

it's spelled whip-it! when I looked it up it looks like the trademark has lapsed

A single hit from one of these has residual effects that last an entire 24 hours.

Fuck Michigan.

[-] trumpetnoises@hexbear.net 4 points 9 months ago

punishment for gaza support?

[-] Stoneykins@hexbear.net 4 points 9 months ago

Jeez I am conflicted on this.

On one hand, I don't agree with making any drug illegal. People should generally be allowed to put what they want in their bodies.

On the OTHER hand, seeing fruit flavored canisters the size of my thigh with "cool" 18 y/o people all over the advertising looks just like the predatory shit the tobacco industry does.

Some kind of regulations wouldn't be amiss probably, but I doubt a ban is anything helpful.

[-] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 3 points 9 months ago

I always use these to clear drain lines on HVAC systems, but never used it recreationally since I always heard it was like a minute high anyways.

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 5 points 9 months ago

it's a great minute

[-] ComradeChairmanKGB@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 9 months ago

[-] GlueBear@hexbear.net 3 points 9 months ago
