Complaining about the prices at ski resorts and amusement parks is peak first world problems.

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 34 points 8 months ago

I agree, however they still shouldn't be charging 8 million dollars for food.

[-] Delphia@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago

In fairness to ski resorts they do have additional overheads.

Its harder to get supplies in, workers are seasonal and either have to be provided housing or paid more to cover eyewatering seasonal rents, heating... not to say they dont tack on a big "Because you have no other option" tax.

Just because something else is worse somewhere else, doesn't mean people can't complain or feel cheated.

I think it's less the feeling of actual, serious persecution and more just an intense annoyance at the perceived unfairness of obviously skeezy business practices.

Nobody likes being on the receiving end of "Lol because I/we can, that's why. What are you gonna do about it?"

Feels like everywhere now. Baseball parks. Movie theaters. Rodeo.

"Woah, you smuggled in your own food!?"

"Heh, yeah kid. This ain't my first ~~rodeo~~ baseball game movie."

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I went to the movies last night for the first time in a few years. It was $42 for 2 tickets, and $30 for 2 sodas and a popcorn, and then they had the audacity to ask for a tip.

Same for airport. Oh no we have to throw your water bottle (I bought 24 for $3) at security screening, but 10ft after there is a store selling those exact same bottle for $6 EACH

[-] LaVacaMariposa@mander.xyz 24 points 8 months ago

I think you can drink your water, but keep the bottle and then refill it in the other side of security

[-] ripripripriprip@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

This is absolutely true and so easy to do. You can also bring as many dry snacks as you want.

[-] da_hooman_husky@lemmy.world 35 points 8 months ago

That pic is way too generous with them fries lol

[-] assembly@lemmy.world 29 points 8 months ago

With shorter snow seasons due to climate change, those may be the cheapest prices we ever see again.

[-] DannyMac@lemmy.world 24 points 8 months ago

I wonder how many years will need to pass before people see this meme and wonder why ski resorts are selling burgers and fries so cheaply...

[-] xpinchx@lemmy.world 24 points 8 months ago

Let's be real 10 years from now nobody is gonna be skiing anymore. ☀️♨️🥵

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

We can water ski once the earth is covered in ocean.

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I didn't know Waterworld was a documentary!

[-] Venator@lemmy.nz 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

There'll still be rich cunts heli boarding, but yeah almost all the ski lifts will end up closing down from lack of revenue due to not enough up time due to unpredictable weather.

Oh and indoor fields like the one in dubai and Auckland, nz will presumably still operate, unless the sport in general just becomes really unpopular.

[-] mcmoor@bookwormstory.social 3 points 8 months ago

We'll be skiing in Siberia when the temperature is no longer -40 (any degree)

[-] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 23 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Don't worry, they drop it down to $15 for the staff when it's literally the only place to eat. Hence why your average resort employee carries a large backpack.

[-] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

The good ol' company store scam.

[-] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 8 months ago

For what it's worth that employee discount makes it the cheapest restaurant in town...

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 22 points 8 months ago

Same with GrubHub/DoorDash

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 16 points 8 months ago

So... Is McDonald's turning into a ski resort? 🤔

[-] rImITywR@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

That looks wayyy too high quality to be McDo

[-] KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

I agree but at the same time that burger looks very mid.

[-] tpihkal@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago

I wonder if they've heard about surge rates yet?

Now do an airport that happens to be at a ski resort

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Pretty much everyone flies into Geneva Airport for the french resorts; the Montreux Jazz Cafe is the biggest restaurant there.

Just looked it up, their burgers are 26 to 30 euros.

Actually fairly reasonable for Geneva

[-] Holyginz@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

This applies to hotels as well.

[-] bender223@lemmy.today 7 points 8 months ago

Yeah, it's redonk. When me and my buddy had season passes for a ski resort, I would just bring premade lunches instead.

[-] MamboGator@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Those fries look really delicious, though. I could sell a couple organs. How many spleens do I really need?

[-] Wogi@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago

I dunno. I've been an unhinged addict of French fries for many years, and I can taste those fries by looking at them.

They're too starchy , not greasy enough. The skins will be unpleasant which is unfortunate because I always like the skins. They look light on salt, and will need ketchup.

My God what the fuck is wrong with me I'm like a fucking potato sommelier

[-] ComradeBunnie@aussie.zone 2 points 8 months ago

As a connoisseur of poh tay toes, they look gross.

I mean, if you're already at ski resort and you're looking to harvest organs...

I don't know but I wouldn't start with myself...

[-] Starkstruck@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Or amusement parks. Really anywhere where the only options are their stuff

[-] Mac@mander.xyz 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)
[-] frunch@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

That's the most specific and obscure reference I've gotten here at Lemmy since I've joined, and what a good one! That track slaps, and the whole album is 😙🤌

keep on jammin 🥂

[-] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

When did Five Guys get so cheap?

[-] roserose56@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 months ago

well fancy polished restaurant, where they have a menu with fancy burger names, 2-3 different ketchup's and some fancy plates.

[-] user501213@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Ain't that the truth!

[-] prettydarknwild@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago
