Feeling totally justified in all my "yeah, nah" responses to people asking for donations to the ACLU rn

Liberals when Biden is the least progressive president of all time: "we can pull him right."

[-] whatup@hexbear.net 52 points 2 years ago

Not surprising coming from the official org for enlightened centrist dems and law school nerds who cum at the idea of protecting nazis. They defend literal hate groups.

[-] JayTwo@hexbear.net 35 points 2 years ago

The finally turned around on protecting Nazis but

a) not after doing a lot of damage by fighting for a platform for hate.
b) they didn't really learn anything they just realized how it was affecting their donations

they're like a shotgun with a motion sensor.

Mandatory arbitration agreements 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

At this point why not just have mandatory gladiatorial agreements? Just make an employment contract that requires employees to settle disputes out of court and in the field of blood and battle. There's basically no difference.

[-] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

Nah, corporations would have meathead chuds chomping at the bit to represent them in gladiatorial combat.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 years ago

Just like how they have boogie arbitrators deciding on terminations! At least if it was a blood sport it'd be more honest.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 44 points 2 years ago

Friendship ended with ACLU, now UAW is my friend.

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 22 points 2 years ago

Sorry to say UAW officially endorsed Biden

Evidence #100000000003821 as to why liberal "do gooders" aren't really our allies.

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 33 points 2 years ago

This headline is breaking my brain.

Employee gets fired for allegedly making racist comments
Employee tries to sue for wrongful termination
ACLU tries to force private arbitration
NLRB slaps arbitration down.
ACLU targets the NLRB.

Well this is a fine mess indeed

The gay marraige fight taught me about DC grifter orgs. HRC 1st and then the ACLU.

It took over two years of grass roots fighting the state before national groups ACLU and GLaaD came in to help. Once it was inevitable we were going to go national and they couldn't ignore us any more. That laywer who was in on the beginning, Dana Nessel, is currently now the state AG.

They don't want to solve issues. Solving issues means you have to find a new racket. Never mind the resume padder of actually fixing shit. Drag that shit out as long as you can. They're a bunch of laywers and grifters who see dollar signs.

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

FUCK THE HRC. Transphobic pieces of shit

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 24 points 2 years ago

Love how the founders of the ACLU were commies and it's denigrated to this

[-] pumpchilienthusiast@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

kind of like how a lib magazine profanes the name of mother jones

[-] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 23 points 2 years ago

Liberalism.

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 23 points 2 years ago

Am I wrong in my assessment that the ACLU is

berdly-smug smuglord

in org form?

"Ackshually, the letter of the law is all the matters! The spirit and intent is irrelevant!"

Not a surprising move from the people who supported a Nazi march in Illinois

Don't worry, Joe will do something to stop this, I'm sure of it

Definitely not like he already has a track record of encouraging strikebreaking in just this term or anything

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
