US anti-abortion activists, including allies of Donald Trump, have a strategy to ban abortion nationwide - one that bypasses Congress and the American people. It's a plan that hinges on Mr Trump's re-election in November and the use of a little-known 19th Century law.

At this year's annual "Pro-Life Summit" on 20 January, guests listened to a keynote speech from Marjorie Dannenfelser, head of Susan B Anthony Pro-Life America, one of the country's most influential anti-abortion groups.

Ms Dannenfelser is widely credited with convincing Donald Trump to appoint three anti-abortion justices to the Supreme Court during his presidential term. In June 2022, those appointees helped overturn Roe v Wade, rescinding the nationwide right to abortion.

It was a generational victory for the anti-abortion movement. The runway had opened, activists said at the time, to an abortion-free future.

I imagine a backdoor strategy might work well to reduce abortion rates...

I thought the same thing. They must have known the implication when they wrote that title.

I wish I could laugh at all the 'backdoor' jokes in this thread, but this disgusts me far too much to get any pleasure out of it. The Comstock laws are sickening. They were come up with by a proud racist, bigot and misogynist who wanted those laws implemented specifically for those reasons. Which is why it was illegal to even distribute informational pamphlets about abortion through the mail for a very long time.

Anti-Abortion activists? Can we please start calling them what they really are?

Pro state-enforced birth and death if need by

They are also not pro-life, because no conservative cares for people other then themselves. And maybe their unhappy wifes and children, on a lucky day.

But when their family will be ruined by an unplanned child, they are the first in line to beg for what they routinely deny others in need. Its selfish, unjust and inhuman. So pro-life they kill you.

Or, in other words, peak conservative.

One thing that annoys me is that they try to link reformer Susan B. Anthony to "Right To Life."

Ray Bradbury was angry with President Obama because there were no space shots in his term. After Bradbury died the Right tried to paint him as a life long Republican stalwart.

It is incredible to me that even after all these years the Comstock Act hasn't been deemed unconstitutional. It is a blatant infringement on free speech, free association rights, not to mention the right to privacy and protections against unreasonable search and seizure.
