being disrespectful to god by having talking animals

:floppy-parrot:

[-] TornadoThompson@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

The Bible is full of weird shit that talks. Lest they forget the talking snake that kickstarts the whole shebang, regardless of it being Satan's vent doll.

Lmao at C.S Lewis "promoting mysticism" he was so fucking Christian literally every book he ever wrote is about being Christian and shit

Idk how A Wrinkle in Time is "occult" or whatever I seem to remember it being kind of Christian actually 🤔

And Where the Sidewalk Ends has got to be one of the most charming and harmless books there is

“Encouraging children to use violence against their fathers” okay that’s fucking hilarious

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

Damn Where the Sidewalk Ends is a lot more hardcore than I remember

They said it couldn't be done, that without organized religion we would leave all that silliness behind.

Continuing our national tradition of moral panics, synthesizing it with edgy internet atheism;

I humbly present to you

Secular Satanic Panic

It's almost like religion isn't the cause of the problem, but an interwoven aspect of society which has been affected by and caused problems as a result of cultural ideas and practices which it can sustain but is also largely affected by.

At least some of those reasons are likely fake. "Depicting women in strong leadership positions" is a little too on the nose, but it could still be real. But "being anti-logging" is silly and "encouraging violence against fathers" for Hop on Pop is downright parody. And the one for I am Jazz reads like someone transitioning from parody to just plain criticism (of the book banners, that is).

"Encouraging violence against fathers” for Hop on Pop

As a father of kids who do in fact like to hop on pop, I get this one.
