“There is a real cognitive dissonance here… we’re passing policies that make people less safe and around more guns,” Eskamani said. “The policies the Legislature pushes don’t make us more safe.”

Oh, I don't think there's cognitive dissonance at all. This goes with their pro-gun stance. "If you want to be protected, be prepared." So, of course, you combat guns by spending huge amounts of taxpayer money on bulletproof windows. The other solution, reducing the amount of guns in the community, is not something they could even begin to entertain as an idea.

Wait, aren't guns supposed to make you safer? Why don't they just put a good guy with a gun in there and save some money?

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago

But I thought guns mad us more safe? No idea why they would need bullet proof windows?

Things can be cross-posted so duplicates don't repeatedly show up. I'm seeing this article 3 times in a row on my front page. You should post it once and cross-post to the relevant communities rather than spam the link.

crossposted post aren't all showing in the main thread ? Or you are using a filter ?

Because it's surely a bit annoying to see the same post on multiple communities even though they are the same(but on differents instances)

[-] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

I don't claim to be an expert, but couldn't it simply be different instances? Lemmy.world doesn't federate all the same instances as Lemmy.dbzer0.com, but they are still federated to each other. Posting to both will let you see duplicates, but there may be people from other instances who only see one.

Lemmy is aware of cross-instance crossposts.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what's going on here. They've revived their personal army (apparently Florida is allowed to have their own "state guard" which operates wholly independently of the federal government), and now they're strengthening the capitol. I think they may actually be expecting for some form of rebellion or civil unrest, large enough that the cops wouldn't be able to handle it.

[-] optissima@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

Oh I don't think cops are going to be on the side you're thinking

[-] CompostMaterial@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Well if you are thinking that the cops will be on the people's side, boy have I got news for you.

[-] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

They want you to think it's Dem vs Rep while they're doing Poor vs Rich.

[-] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

And the majority of cops will take the side of the rich, for some reason.

[-] Coreidan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The some reason is money.

[-] girlfreddy@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Because that's what they were created to do ... keep the Black slaves in check.

[-] optissima@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I misread the post as stating that the police would be defending the people against the internal military. Yes the police will be murdering the civilians.

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

FYI, that state guard is a flop. They can't keep anyone in leadership positions & no one wants to be in it.

[-] lasagna@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Floridaman too busy wrestling aligators and cooking meth.

[-] Num10ck@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

what if desantis refuses to leave?

[-] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

I fully support this move, I wouldn't want a stray bullet exiting the building and striking an innocent citizen.

[-] spider@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't want a stray bullet exiting the building

Guns are banned in the Capitol Complex.

[-] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Just like guns being banned in schools has stopped school shootings?

[-] SnowdenHeroOfOurTime@unilem.org -1 points 1 year ago

Very helpful propaganda eh

[-] regalia@literature.cafe 16 points 1 year ago

Replublicans: "Let's make sure everyone can get guns. Yes, even the crazy people. Yea, they voted for us. Ok now let's make sure I'm safe from this armed crazyland I created. Bullet proofed for MY safety.
