"Tiny genetic change"

Oof. Would that it were so easy....

Genes are very small, so, you know, technically correct

The best kind of correct!

And people say yardwork can't be surprisingly fun.

Lmao my whole family quotes this: 'DONT LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS!'

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 year ago

It's pretty funny to hear a 6 year old say it

Stinging nettle -> singing nettle

Now I'm thinking of some wide spread agent like pollen being laced with naturally occurring psychedelics.

I mean, pollen, as an allergen is often taken in through the nose, which is a great route of administration to affect the brain quickly.

Oh the rag weed count is high? Get ready to trip balls people, lol.

This would have been a much better movie than whatever The Happening was about.

[-] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Can I sign up for a timeline change, please?

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 6 points 1 year ago

I sat on a stinging nettle while in shorts once without realizing it was there until I sat on it. Would not recommend.

Where do I meet her? All the ones I have been with were indeed thinking of other men.

I don't get it. If the sting of U. pelulifera already contains bufotenin, what genetic change would be needed for a psychedelic sting? Wikipedia says bufotenin is a psychedelic substance and a DMT analog.

Fun fact: while searching for this, I've found that apparently some people seem to have elevated levels of bufotenin in their pee. Could be another source...

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

Gonna need a bigger dose.

[-] Tlaloc_Temporal@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

I would guess the change would be to produce more bufotenin and less stinging, rather than adding bufotenin out of whole cloth.

Still probably more than one change, but theoretically feasible to manually breed a population of hallucinogenic stinging nettles if you're open to being stung a lot for testing.

[-] flora_explora@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, I thought that it was qualitatively already a psychedelic sting. But yeah, quantity is key here xD
