Straw Poll (hexbear.net)
submitted 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) by HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net to c/games@hexbear.net

There have been some very serious and very hurtful accusations leveled among hexbears today. It is time to purge our organization of bad actors and decide once and for all which games are good.

Rank the following:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Fallout 4
  • The Last of Us 2
  • Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Metal Gear Solid V
  • Starfield
  • Marvel's Spider Man 2
  • Assassin's Creed Mirage
  • Elden Ring
  • Cyberpunk 2077

I have a list of which ones make you reactionary if you like them. Choose carefully.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

If the game doesn't randomly explode my character and also threaten to explode my gpu despite looking like ass, is it even a real game?

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago

Video games are bourgeois decadence! All are bad!

[-] daniyeg@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 months ago

From best to worst:

• Elden Ring

• Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

• Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

• Red Dead Redemption 2

• Grand Theft Auto V

• The Last of Us 2

• God of War Ragnarok

• Horizon Forbidden West

• Fallout 4

• Metal Gear Solid V

• Starfield

Haven’t played:

• Cyberpunk 2077

• Assassin’s Creed Mirage

God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West I didn’t play I only played their first games but unless they’re fundamentally different they’d end up in the exact same place on the list

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

Good (in no particular order):

  • Elden Ring
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • GTA V

Slop:

  • FO4
  • FO76

Trash tier:

  • Starfield
  • Anything from Ubisoft or Nintendo

N/A:

  • Everything else
[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

Every Saints Row game including the kinda shitty reboot one is better than any GTA game

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

Good: All of them except for Bethesda because Bethesda, ass creed and horizon, because I don't know what they are

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Horizon is an Ubisoft style open world game, but with robot animals and dinosaurs. Haven't played the second one, but in the first one the mid game was such a slog that I didn't touch it for years, and now I'm just letting my pre teen niece finish my playthrough. The game is actually becoming really good now lol.

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Damn sounds dope in concept, but it being Ubisoft I would imagine its not good in practice

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's not made by Ubisoft actually, but by Guerrilla Games, the same people that made the Killzone series. I just use "Ubisoft style" as an adjective to describe the nature of the open world. The game is expected quite well, but since it's their first attempt at something like this, there are a few pacing issues and some of the combat is repetitive on higher difficulties. But otherwise it's actually a very good game.

[-] ryepunk@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

There is no monster hunter and therefore the list is wrong

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Only two of these are even remotely worth playing.

[-] magi@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The only one on here on first glance that I'd want to play is Elden Ring

[-] robinnn@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Any time game ranking is brought up, the list remains the same:

#1: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

#2-♾️: everything else

[-] axont@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

Masterpiece, sublime

  • The first 60% of MGSV

Really great

  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

Very mediocre with some good parts

  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Fallout 4
  • The Last of Us 2
  • Elden Ring
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • GTAV

Doodoo Slop

  • The second 40% of MGSV
  • Starfield
  • Assassin's Creed Mirage
  • Spider Man 2 (swing mechanics are fun tho)
[-] Beaver@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Zelda and MGS V are super fun

Cyberpunk is kinda objectively bad, but I enjoyed it anyhow

Haven't played the rest of them

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 months ago

Starfield is great the rest are shit

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Spicy. I like it.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Cyberskunk 1986

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I mean those all sound like really good games. Unless you particularly hate the game genre the game is from or hate the game studio that developed it, most people would enjoy playing all of them, especially now that the ones that were glitchy and unplayable at launch have been fixed.

[-] KurtVonnegut@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

Where are my 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors fans at???

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)
  1. Elden Ring
  2. MGSV
  3. Spider Man 2
  4. GoW Ragnarok
  5. Cyberpunk 2077
  6. Horizon Forbidden West
  7. TotK
  8. Fallout 4
  9. GTA5
  10. Assassin's Creed Mirage
  11. RDR2
  12. Last of Us 2
  13. Starfield

MGSV is a 6/10, for reference.

[-] Runcible@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

I have only played these four, but: Horizon > Mirage > TotK > Fallout

[-] Gamer_time@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

I have played like 2 games here and they were both mid in several critical ways but with good core gameplay loops.

[-] Wisp@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

The only good games are games that I personally played and enjoyed. All other games are either facist or lib shit

[-] Xx_Aru_xX@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I only played GTA V because it was free for a week

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

While I think there are some excellent games on that list, none of them would be in my top 10 (which is obviously subjective). Then again, my favorites are all different types of strategy games, such as Civilization or Total War, etc.
