it's brigading. Sure it is. Always their boggieman when the threads go south.

Especially when it's just their own sub members :/

Broke: boycotting assassin’s creed for making a black protagonist

Woke: boycotting assassin’s creed for that time they made Marx a radlib

[-] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 31 points 3 months ago

Oh yeah they made Marx talk about how political violence is never acceptable and then sent you to assassinate a hardline communist for breaking the law lmao

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago

In an assassination themed game

Good, this is how you shut racist nerds down online, you slam the door in their face and also hit them with a ppb.

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 16 points 3 months ago

I can think of a few ways to shut them down offline too cure-for-fascism

Demanding historical accuracy from the video game where a prominent plot point is ancient aliens reincarnating themselves through genetic memory is kind of like asking for an authentic Italian style pizza from a California Pizza Kitchen

[-] Cochise@lemmy.eco.br 22 points 3 months ago

Demamding historical accuracy and then complaining about a historic accurate character in that setting.

[-] Yuritopiaposadism@hexbear.net 18 points 3 months ago

authentic Italian style pizza

Not only that, but Italians just copy the pizza from American-Italian's pizzas from NY.

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

Pizza is Neapolitan. It’s a distinct speciality of Naples, developed at at time when Italy didn’t even exist as a nation. Saying pizza is Italian is like saying haggis is British. It might be technically true, but not really.

amazing

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It's not even true lol, first recorded usage of word "pizza" is from Gaeta in Latium and historically similar food appeared in many cultures going back as far as VI century BCE Persian Empire and possibly even to ancient Troy.

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 1 points 3 months ago

if it dates back to persia then its not italian and therefore is still true

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

im going to be insufferable with this information thank you

[-] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

You shouldn't be, even if you choose to define Neapolitan Pizza as the first "real" pizza, it and other styles - such as the pan baked Sicilian - were widespread across central and southern Italy well before the 20th century.

This shit is so stupid. Ubisoft hasn’t made a good game since… 2007? People should be upset that the first game about a black samurai is gonna be dogshit glitchfest with 500 special deluxe editions

[-] Runcible@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

I thought the recent side scrolling Prince of Persia game was great, and to be honest I thought Assassin's Creed Odyssey was well done. I liked the more ambiguous unmasking the order approach it took. (and the Greek sea shanties)

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

I thought Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was well done.

Very poorly optimised at least at first.

[-] Runcible@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I didn't play it until 2020. Probably the worst release I've ever played was Pathfinder: Kingmaker

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yeah that was bad, but from the games i played nothing come even close to Sword of the Stars 2, after 9/10 first game is was like kick in the nuts.

[-] dirtybeerglass@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

Odyssey was very good indeed.

The Anno games kick arse and I think they count as ubisoft now as they bought the studio. Which worries me.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

Yasuke is depicted as a samurai in the Nioh games and none of these nerds cared at all. Those games are made by a Japanese studio even.

Also from talking to a few friends the average Japanese person seems to regard Yasuke as one of the coolest guys to ever live

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Didn't Nioh have a white samurai too or am I thinking of something else?

[-] axont@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

yeah but he was also a real guy, William Adams. British guy who got to Japan in the 17th century, was one of only two survivors of a ship from Europe. He got appointed as an advisor type samurai to the shogun for ten years because the shogunate wanted western style boats.

Also Nioh has you fighting wizards and giant frog monsters and stuff. It's awesome but I never once heard gamer types complain about historical inaccuracy.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago

White samurai is kinda popular trope ever since Clavell wrote Shogun, and to be fair it did happened once or twice too.

[-] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

Main character of the first is William Adams, a fictional irishman who became a samurai, named after a real englishman who became a samurai. Japan, or at least Team Ninja, seems to have something of a love of foreigners who became samurai.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

Clearly the Japanese are brainwashed by the woke commie left, smh!

[-] TemutheeChallahmet@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

The one way to produce less of this shit is to make sure more antisocial kids in school learn lessons on proper human interaction and healthy romantic courtship.

Nothing more embarrassing than a gamer

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

There is zero question that Yasuke was a samurai, of course.
Culture war stuff always goes in weird directions but this one surprised me just because the answer among historians is very unambiguously yes.

[-] christian@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

Damn it seems kind of weird that people are upset over this one thing in particular, but on the other hand I can't think of any good examples of video games that were not historically accurate and no one got upset so it's probably pretty normal and also I think the fact that the year of high school I missed was the one where history class is devoted to samurai means I don't have a good handle on how much this inaccuracy destroys the immersion for a normal person.

[-] Darthsenio_Mall@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

Anyone see that mid thundercat/flylo yasuke anime? The music was nice tho
