Share a photo in the comments if you can find it! Also, what do yuu like about the art? Do you run it in any of the decks/games you play?

This is mine for now. It's Trapinch from the Pokemon tcg by Asako Ito. I don't play, but there's a stack of free singles that people leave in a box at a bg place I go to, ao I took one and keep it in my wallet as a good luck charm (and charm it does, look at rhe overaized head and cute knitted body! A single crooked thread for a mouth and a shining star iris completes the baby)

Also while I was browsing, I saw this sick Galarian Moltress by Shinji Kanda

I'm changing my answer to this card, too

Also specifically the GBC game(s) version of this card art.

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

That Dragonair kris-love

I would like the users here to take note of the hats.

I grew up playing mtg and was mesmerized by art from Chippy and John Avon

Chippy

John Avon

[-] Babs@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

John Avon lands are so distinct. You see that dramatic lighting on a basic land and you just know it's him.

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

Everything from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck.

The artist was a famously unmarried woman, and that tickles me pink

that Moltres though, wow!

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 months ago

Oh yeah it's the most classic tarot deck out there. I quite like the Lost Hollow one and Kitten Tarot

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

These are great!

this full art mountain from Magic: The Gathering

I'm already a HUGE fan of the art in Streets of New Capenna but I absolutely adore this one mountain in particular, I just think it's gorgeous

Shoutout to the close second of the alt art for Disciplined Duelist from the same set:

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

I have several of these mountains in my Laelia deck, they're gorgeous

[-] EstraDoll@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

lmao i got like 50 of these mountains in various decks. I would replace every basic mountain in all my decks with it

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Is that like, futurism, the style in the Mountain? Full art cards are chefs-kiss

[-] EstraDoll@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

each set in Magic the Gathering has its own like... theme/style. Streets of New Capenna, my favorite, is full in on the art deco. There's some other beautiful cards in that set but that Mountain is something else

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

Cool! Each set having a setting/art direction definitely makes for memorable cards

[-] niph@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

I play this mountain in my draft set. A+

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 months ago

Not so much an art as entire card but probably the old Uncle Istvan from MtG

Also a lot of characters from Here to Slay

[-] Commiejones@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

Rider-Waite's 7 of swords

It means "bold plan, risk, or a plan that may fail." The dude has snuck into the enemy camp to steal their swords There are 2 swords left behind so if they catch him he'll be outnumbered and fucked but if he gets away the enemy will be to a fraction of their fighting power.

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

If they catch him though, he'll have five swords which is two more than Zoro three-sword style from straw-hat-republican-army so he'll be okay

Geck from Inscryption, I don't know why, it just makes me chuckle, you have tons of more powerful and complex cards with their creepy and menacing looks... and then you have Geck, it's just Geck. No cost, no effect. There it is, Geck, and its goofy face.

Geck

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

One geck is good, but how about 100 gecs

[-] inlandempire@jlai.lu 2 points 2 months ago

Saw them live in Barcelona! Fun times !

[-] Bat@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

All of the cards in Wingspan have amazing art but I think this one is my favorite

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago
[-] Tommasi@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

I really love Rebecca Guay's mtg illustrations, Bitterblossom is probably my favorite.

There's some great artist doing mtg art still, but I wish they still used more stylized stuff like this.

[-] BGDelirium@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'm slowly collecting all of the mtg cards she's ever illustrated. Except for the secret lair set she had. Not sure what that was all about

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Part of it is nostalgia but I really loved the dragons designed by Kazuki Takahashi. They have this wonderful lanky look, kind of like the ones from Panzer Dragoon.

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Sick dragons screm-cool

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Really anything from Liiga Smilshkalne, loved her stuff ever since Android Netrunner.

Gun to my head, probably Data Raven. Idk if I can find the card without a big FFG watermark so here's the art on its own:

[-] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

From FFG's Android Netrunner

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Inside Job was one of my fave cards when I played netrunner. The look of chaotic excitement on the hacker's face is fun (also they're on the toilet lmaoo)

[-] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Modern Netrunner's art isn't as good as the FFG days but it's 200% more based

[-] Eco@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

this flareon without question

though this one is also cool

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Top one is unreal cute! It has little cakes in the reflections in its eyes undyne-owo

[-] Ambii@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'm a huge fan of these pixel lands, I really wish proxied lands were legal in all formats because I want these for all of my lands.

A more simple one, but I love rashmi's original card. I'm a sucker for UG card art.

In pokemon I'm in love with Yuka Morii's art, the little clay dolls in real life backdrops are so charming. I'm so happy whenever I see her cards

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I love the clay art too, I'm sure it's partially the inspiration for the (computer generated) claymation netflix show

[-] Thorngraff_Ironbeard@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Most of the Board wipes have beautiful art.

I love progenitus for the scope, seeing this leviathan walking across the world.

[-] FanonFan@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

Too bad seb mckinnon is cringe cause I fw his art

[-] largerfather@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

i really like the art of the board game ascension, illustrated by eric sabee. it has a really cool visual style that i always liked, i especially like the monsters

fire tyrant nightmare sentinel reclamax

theres also another board game series illustrated by another person, élise plessis, that i really like. its has this dreamlike quality thats very fitting for a board game series about the world of dreams

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

These are so cool!

[-] Bearlifter@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I keep this card around on my desk because I love it. Look at that doofy face ❤️

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Loveable leviathan

[-] Xatolos@reddthat.com 2 points 2 months ago

One of my favorites is from an old 1995 TCG called "Heresy: Kingdom Come", and the card is "Michael: Chief of Archangels":

The art is by Brom, and here is better quality version of the art:

(This TCG was good for art as they were much taller than normal cards, about the size of tarot cards. This hurt them with players though since I card sleeves would fit them and made shuffling harder.)

While not all the art was great on the cards, the back image was great:

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Wow that's such a bold, characterful card! Never heard of the tcg, was it popular?

[-] Xatolos@reddthat.com 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

No, it was a flop unfortunately. It had low sales so an expansion for it got canceled.

They had some great artists to at the time too, with different art styles to. Some had a more comic art style to. But since it was from 1995, and low sales, finding the original card art can be hard at times.

As for the first image, it is Brom, who is a major artist, quite large in the 90s and still does work. He is a good page of Brom's art. He also made what is probably the most famous Doom 2 art:

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

That's a shame :(

The site with his art is an absolute treasure trove, I'm going through it now.

I like this cutie. Thanks for sharing!
