It's really funny how they painted themselves into a corner with that localization, like with that one case that involves yōkai, so they had to come up with a story involving an American town that's doing a Japanese cultural festival or something.

There is an anime from the 90s, in the french localization they set it in Paris instead of Tokyo. Anyway in the finale, the protagonist goes with their parents to live in.... Paris, so suddenly they all were living in Tokyo all along!

Mikey Daniel: Ah, PLAYER, it is nice to see you made it out here to the bleachers, how was your date with Emily Freedawn?

>- We had a great time at the Hamburger Festival, we ate a lot of Hamburgers

- It was bad, I got dust all over my Tuxedo and Levi Jeans from the nearby Tornado Alley

- say nothing

Mikey Daniel: Ah, that's good to hear, I was told the Hamburgers at this year's fesitval had the best Hamburgers in the entire Prefecture.

Mikey Daniel: Unfortunately, I had to work on my father's Buffalo farm.

Sleve McDichael: Speaking of your father's buffalo farm, I just moved into an apartment in the skyscraper next door to that farm! I guess we are now also neighbours, classmate!

I appreciate the use of actual Japanese grammar in that last line.

I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the US actually called its divisions prefectures considering how much of a free-for-all political structures are here.

Mother II has walkable cities, facilities like libraries, and reliable public transport. But you do eat burgers to survive

Its everywhere. So much so that stupid culture war talking points spread. Man living paycheck to paycheck in another country mad because some goofy American bitching about pronouns in video games. Is this chaos theory

I think it'd have to be weebs shitposting with a bunch of references to famous awful localizations like the "jelly donut" thing from pokemon and trying to mirror Japanese cliches/cultural touchstones that show up in a lot of stories with American equivalents that don't make sense and just end up feeling uncanny.
