Jan. 6, 2025, will now be designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE) by the Department of Homeland Security – on par with events like the Democratic and Republican national conventions. This designation allows for "significant resources from the federal government, as well as from state and local partners, to be utilized in a comprehensive security plan," according to the agency.
Because of a bunch of hooting yokels, we now have to upgrade the security on this thing that had previously been very boring.
It's simultaneously very depressing and also relieving to see it taken seriously after last time.
Used to be a nice boring day of accounting.
Before 2020, I had no idea that anything special happened on January 6th. Having a worry free transfer of power was something I just grew up taking for granted.
