Yes, because niche communities are much smaller here if not non-existant. Communities about Classical Chinese, poetry, various academic humanities subjects and the like isn't exactly thriving on here. I try to use the fediverse when I'm able to though, and also try to support smaller communities, but yeah..
I was banned, so I cannot.
I lurk in my city’s subreddit. It briefly closed as part of the protests, but the Lemmy community that was created at the time is inactive.
Deleted my account the day third-party apps were killed. I do browse it on the phone daily using Libreddit though, but only specific communities. I also have LibRedirect setup on my computer, so it redirects me to an Libreddit instance when I click on Reddit links from search results. There’s still a lot of valuable knowledge there so it is hard to avoid.
The porn is still better over there so...
Using reddit on PC and lemmy on mobile since the reddit app sucks
Yes but primarily via RSS feeds to keep up with news
Only time there is because Google links to an answer there. Other than that, nope.
Same
No
I don't log in or post there any more, but there are still a few occasional subreddits that don't have analogs here that I'll sporadically browse anonymously.
I still use it if searching for information on a search engine; like, doing a site search on Reddit for answers on certain things.
I don't expect to be going back unless something blows up here. For most purposes, the Threadiverse has passed the traffic threshold I need to be engaged.
I use old for some of the technical subreddits like cisco, Fortinet, and sysadmin.
When searching for info, yes. But just daily use and scrolling no
Exactly.
I didn't delete my account, but I've never logged back in after they killed 3rd party apps last year and don't visit unless it's a direct result from a search.
Same, but I did delete my account.
Still will read results anonymously via a search tho.
I just deleted all my content but didn’t delete my account. Agreed though there is some useful information on there
I deleted my account, but still use it for information on occasion. I use a front end for it when I do.
Same here. Reddit is purely an addition I put in Google now. I come to Lemmy for all my socializing. I have come to enjoy you weirdos, and thanks for accepting another weirdo :)
Yes but only on desktop, not mobile. I use lemmy from both.
Nah, abandoned it over a year ago
I download it every now and then. But usually I end up deleting it because of the sheer amount of propaganda and advertising. Like give me people’s ideas, not some idiot who’s famous because he did X and Y.
Yes, but less than I did. Mostly to visit my local sub. The one one Lemmy is just me shouting into the void it seems...
I want Lemmy to be a viable alternative and do use it. But, the lack of niche communities makes it harder. I do go back to Reddit from time to time for that fix and to keep up with a few things.
There are a few communities on there which I still check, but I spend a significantly less amount of time on Reddit than I used to. I also refuse to post anything or interact on that site anymore.
No. They ban VPNs, so if I happen to follow a link that leads there, I get the "login to see this" page, shrug, and go somewhere else.
It's easy to circumvent, but rarely worth the effort. The content was getting mostly shit-worthless even before I left. It's only gotten worse.
There's not useful, factual information on 4chan, these days.
Is it easy to circumvent? I use Tailscale to route everything through a VPN but use an App Connector to route it through my home network, and I really hate that.
If you have an account you can use a VPN. Never had trouble
Same. Same reason. Same thing.
I will admit that I've gone to reddit on a VPN with no sign in to look at 🎶porn-o-graphy🎶!
Not really. I've stopped by a few times because I was looking for specific information and that's where it was to be found, but other than that, I went from checking in dozens of times a day to quitting could turkey.
Only when a contact sends me a Reddit link, which I open through Geddit as to not give them any ad revenue, and I do not comment or vote at all.
I don't actively search for stuff fhere either.
Thanks for the info neighbor, downloaded straight away.
Like many others on here, only to search for some specific information. And never logged in to an account anymore.
I miss sports game threads. The Lemmy communities are just not taking off enough for me. I am tempted to open up a reddit account for talking shit in game threads only.
Do it, enjoy your life, don't feel bad.
Fuck Reddit
Nope, Spez or one of his admin goonies fixed that for me.
Perma-banned, for stating facts about Elon Musk and his Boring Company's 'Not A Flamethrower'
Obligatory FUCK SPEZ
Spez and his admin goonies*
Inclusive AND 😂
I use it for a couple of communities specifically for foreigners living in Japan as it's a great source of info from people who've been here longer than I have or have dealt with situations I have not. It's also useful for info on dealing with the obscenity that being an American citizen trying to invest for retirement while overseas brings (I can't use the ISA here or other tax-advantaged things because the US government considers them all PFICs which removes any tax advantage and causes even more pain after that).
I never left, I just started using both.
Probably the "final straw" would be shutting down old.Reddit. Unless they do something else unexpectedly awful that I haven't thought of.
I end up there sometimes but I don't seek it out anymore. I don't have the app on my phone.
No
Nope.
Only when I'm googling a question and I see an answer in reddit.
Never interacting tho.
Yup. My town has a pretty active subreddit, and the Cyberpunk RED subreddit has great material.
Not unless a random search takes me there for a non-answer to my obscure question.
I don't. I recently logged in just to see what i was missing. More than half my front page was ads, the next 30% was repost bots posting the generic questions for engagement. There were maybe 2-3 posts that were actual posts. I left.
Generally no. R/ sysadmin is very helpful; but I usually end up there from a search rather than browsing reddit
Subscribed to the RSS for the one very local niche sub that i haven't found a substitute for. Other than just incidental search results that take me there.
Not really. Sometimes I'm there from search results but never logged in. Rif was reddit for me.
Not really. I left in support of the mod strike/blackout and I stayed away because of Spez’ total bullshit WRT the API.
Sometimes Reddit is still the best place to get or find an answer. As long as old.reddit.com remains functional, I will go and participate while engaging with a question I post.
I was a pretty big contributor before, too. Not like recognizable username big, but big enough to get an IPO invite ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
