I'm NOT watching the fight cause I refuse to give attention and money to a convicted rapist and an influencer creep

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 14 points 5 hours ago

As much as I'd love to watch Jake Paul having to spit out all of his stupid teeth, I'm not paying those people fucking money.

[-] eatthecake@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago

So you love rapists. Got it.

[-] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 21 points 8 hours ago

Well this just about aged like fine milk. Far from beating Jake to a pulp, Tyson threw just 18 punches the entire fight. Though I suppose it's inevitable when Tyson is more than double Jake's age and he retired years ago

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago

Isn't this what basically half of people expected to happen? It was an exhibition, not a fight.

[-] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 7 points 6 hours ago

Oh, I'm not surprised at the outcome, I expected the almost 60 y/o man to lose to the under 30 y/o man, but was just surprised to see the stats on just how little Tyson actually did in the fight.

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 0 points 3 hours ago

I haven't kept up with his stuff but according to some article I read, he's been essentially crippled for a few years now? Like had to be in a wheelchair 2 years ago, then vomited so much blood at one point that the fight was pushed by 6 months... He's not healthy for an 80 year old, much less 58.

[-] Fuzzy_Red_Panda@lemm.ee 12 points 8 hours ago

Love the meme but hate the sport. The whole thing revolves around two people hurting each other and causing brain damage in the process. That’s not entertaining to me, that’s horrifying.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 points 5 hours ago

I wouldn't worry because anybody that called this event "boxing" also hates the sport...

[-] CasualPenguin@reddthat.com 6 points 6 hours ago

They're both trump supporters, so don't feel, the brain damage was a pre existing condition

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 59 points 12 hours ago

I'm not watching it because I'm not a mark

[-] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 hours ago

Hoooly shit is this happening?!

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

if Netflix charging extra for the fight?

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago
[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 hours ago

Glad I canceled my subscription then.

Tbh, Jake has already lost. If he wins, people will say he beat up a 58yo man, former boxer or not. If he loses, he got beat up by a 58yo man.

Like, there's no way he can actually win in the square of public opinion, and I'm here for it.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 14 points 5 hours ago

Pretty sure it's all about the millions of dollars both men will make. If losing is becoming richer by more money than I'll ever see in my life then I'll lose all day long.

[-] qaz@lemmy.world 22 points 9 hours ago

He wins when he gets attention, and he will get that either way

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 9 points 8 hours ago

100% just like anything to do with Jake Paul, this is about money, and the fact that we are all talking about it really only points to one outcome. He won and we lost.

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 27 points 11 hours ago

Pretty sure he lost in the square of public opinion years ago, now he's just capitalizing on it.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 37 points 12 hours ago

Even if you're anti-Paul, watching the fight is free press for him. Same as how Trump did it

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 11 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Watch a pirated stream and don't talk about it and it's fine really.

[-] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

You're right, it should have been pre-election and Trump instead of Paul. Now there's a fight I'd pay to watch

[-] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Nah, Jake Paul getting facefisted is the only reason I'd watch this shit.

But this has shenanigans written all over it, so I'm not gonna give it my attention.

[-] NegativeLookBehind@lemmy.world 28 points 13 hours ago

I’m here for both of those things. I only wish it was Mike Tyson in his prime so we could really see a total annihilation of this asswipe.

[-] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

It's all scripted so it would turn out however they wrote it. Boxing is scripted and every altercation and weigh in fight/drama in boxing and UFC/MMA is set up and fake

[-] NegativeLookBehind@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Yup, I had the same thought. The slap was just to generate hype. The fight was pretty tame. This was just a money making event.

[-] eatthecake@lemmy.world -3 points 2 hours ago

So you're pro rapist?

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 30 points 12 hours ago

Paul wouldn't have challenged Tyson in his prime, his professional career is a sham.

[-] NegativeLookBehind@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

But wouldn’t you love to see it happen?

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 6 points 12 hours ago

Who would be the equivalent these days? They should challenge Paul!

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

They do all the time, he's not gonna take any fight where he can lose, especially if money isn't the number one motivator. The fact that this isn't common sense is worrying.

[-] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 12 hours ago

There is no equivalent to Iron Mike in his prime. GOAT

Exactly. I want to see him fight the current heavyweight champion.

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

Akimbo Slice in his prime vs Paul would be more glorious.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

That dude legit scared me through the computer screen during his backyard brawling days. It scared me to know people like him existed. Did you see the fight where he burst a dude's eye, and fucking blinded him?

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

What's even scarier is that he got absolutely rolled when it came to pros.

You're not wrong, dude was champ in the non pro arena, and as soon as he stepped in it was just as shocking with different winners.

[-] thebestaquaman@lemmy.world 1 points 48 minutes ago

Absolutely! I remember going from "holy shit this guy is terrifying and we have video evidence of him being able to kick ass" to "what the fuck? These not-as-terrifying looking people are messing him up bad!"

[-] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 11 points 11 hours ago

Most of us are not watching the fight because Netflix is sucking a big tube steak tonight. I haven't seen this much buffering since dial up modems.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

I guess they created a hit event then! And cheaped out on their elastic servers.

[-] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 hours ago

Ah, bollocks...

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 17 points 13 hours ago

Oh we are definitely the same, friend. I want Jake Paul to look like extra pulp orange juice.

[-] hellfire103@lemmy.ca 9 points 13 hours ago

Of course, I made the mistake of posting this exclusively on platforms where I hold the same opinions as everyone else.

I'm not watching it cuz shitass Netflix won't stop buffering.

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

George Foreman once described Mike Tyson as a "cross-town bus in boxing trunks".

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

That's a huge compliment coming from the hardest hitting boxer of his time. Foreman was a fucking beast in his era. The only reason Ali beat him is because Ali fought smart, and Foreman was the dope who got roped into it.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 12 hours ago

To be fair unfortunately Jake Paul is probably going to win easily given age difference that fact he is a professional fighter even if not elite and Mikes long retirement.

[-] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 10 hours ago

I knew who the winner was as soon as I saw Mike walking to the ring. I was like "oh, damn"
