Sir, this is a Wendy's (and not the Discovery Channel)

[-] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

So let's do it like a Druid in the General Channel.

"Hey look at this cool rock i found" is definitely a valid courting technique for neurodiverse persons :3

but USUALLY never diamonds.

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago

That's because diamonds are pretty boring. The only thing they have going for them is sparkling. There are SO many prettier gemstones out there.

[-] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Hard disagree: they exhibit 4 perfect octahedral cleavage planes in addition to their adamantine lustre, diamond is one of the most useful materials in existence, and their petrological origins speak to incredibly interesting conditions of formation! In fact, a mineral inclusion within a diamond gave us our first solid evidence of the existence of water at equilibrium with mantle rock at depth on Earth, which was previously largely discounted.

But yeah, fuck De Beers.

Is it bad to link to !science_memes@mander.xyz when we are already on !science_memes@mander.xyz ?

It's also good for (at least some?) ~~neurological~~ neurotypical* people. I rarely connect with people romantically, but if a dude just wanted to show me cool rocks he'd found, I'd definitely be well on my way to falling to in love

*Autocorrect made me look like a douchebag! Sorry!

best I can do is two marbles and a stick

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 week ago

I mean, I'm not saying no. DMs definitely open :p

[-] Draegur@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

It’s also good for (at least some?) neurological people.

I would like to preface that I am not saying this to be judgemental and I'm not implying that anyone was hurt by it, but,

I'm not sure if you used "neurological" instead of "neurotypical" on purpose...? Because literally every creature with a brain is neurological.

And while I definitely used "neurodiverse" instead of "neurodivergent" on purpose because it feels nicer, implying that the opposite term is "neurological" might sound to some as though you are implying that neurodivergent/aneurotypical people have no neurological framework and I hesitate to jump to the conclusion that that's actually what you meant.

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

That was an autocorrect error, I stg! Was supposed to be neurotypical!

Sorry!

[-] Draegur@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

No apologies necessary! I actually thought it was more likely that going on. I hope I did not come across as too confrontational!

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

Not at all! Let's both agree autocorrect is real villain here haha

[-] cybervseas@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Chicken thoughts is a great webcomic. I don't own a bird and thanks to chicken thoughts I never will.

[-] ColdWater@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Pretty rocks are better than diamond

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The amount of effort to obtain the female-impressing rock by the crow is far less than by the human, thus indicating that the crow is the wisest of the two.
