I think that's neat and pretty impressive for role playing games from the 80's, a genre which used to cater exclusively to men.

IDK, I've heard lots of stories about people RP'ing other genders in TTRPGs from the real early days. It couldn't have been alien to people at the time.

Dragon Quest IV, which came out in 1990 allowed you to choose between male and female anyway. Definitely early pioneers.
