I feel like I haven't seen those tack-sticks since the 90s or so.

[-] Tiocfaidhcaisarla@hexbear.net 11 points 4 months ago

I could immediately taste them again after seeing this image and my verdict is the same: icky

As a vehicle for dip delivery they're alright but otherwise yeah. Too crunch.

Edit: y'know I retract this statement. The shape and surface area to bland dry dough does not make them "alright" as a dip delivery vehicle.

These always bring back extremely specific memories of office parties and New Years Eve celebrations in the 00s

In America, bread sticks are sticks of bread. They're basically pizza crusts cooked independently of the pizza. That is a saltine stick.

[-] Murple_27@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago

That is a saltine stick.

It's bald pocky.

i prefer the ones pictured to the typical american style breadstick, but to be fair the image that comes to mind is a doughy breadstick, something similar to Olive Garden fare, or a neighborhood pizza joint when I think ‘breadstick’

maybe its my american roots, maybe its me taking the word at literal face value. i dunno.

We have grissini here, but, yeah, you're more likely to get the ones made from pizza dough

[-] largerfather@hexbear.net 13 points 4 months ago

that’s a toast stick

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago

I learned that when Americans refer to breadsticks its not these

What in the hell?

[-] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago

[-] Gorb@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 10 points 4 months ago

Bread but in stick form. Kinda like those but thick and fluffier

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

How is it different from Ciabatta or a small baguette?

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

You eat them at Olive Garden until you can't eat your food you ordered anymore.

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

Don't fill up on bread!sticks

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

Repackaged pizza dough

[-] hamid@vegantheoryclub.org 9 points 4 months ago

What is an American bread stick then? I'm imagining something horrible, probably with wrapped in processed meat and cheese or something

In true American fashion, it is quite a bit wider

[-] blame@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

wait till you learn what baguette means

[-] Gorb@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

Hon hon hon bread schlong?
