No, I don't remember anything remotely like that.

[-] SorryQuick@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

We had that here in quebec, it happened to our neighbors, not sure who snitched on them, they even went through the trouble of not parking at the same place.

Quite, we had many measures like that during covid. Not allowed to go on walks after 8pm unless you have a dog? Well guess what, everyone bought a dog, resulting in a surge of abandonned dogs when covid ended.

[-] yeather@lemmy.ca -1 points 3 months ago

It happened in the nanny states like Australia.

If you call the police in America, they send everyone to the afterlife instead.

[-] luciferofastora@lemmy.zip 18 points 3 months ago

Isn't that a bar in Night City? Sounds like a great time!

Be sure to ask Claire for a Jackie Welles.

Just slap your knees, stand up, and say "Welp!"

[-] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 7 points 3 months ago

Nationally recognised signal

"Welp" can also be replaced by "Well, I suppose..."

Most years, my in-laws come here from Idaho. We have a small apartment and end up with 11 people here for a week. It's a ton of expense, and my bonus usually goes to paying for things for them.

This year, they decided not to come down, and my wife's parents are going to visit friends on Christmas. For the first time in our marriag3, we get a quiet Christmas alone. We're going to drink mulled spiked cider, smoke weed, and watch all our favorite Christmas movies and shows.

[-] AquaTofana@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

That sounds like a dope ass Christmas! Enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

[-] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago

What country is he referencing? because no I do not remember that at all

[-] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 24 points 3 months ago

Given the England flag in their name I'm guessing the UK.

I don't think we had any social distancing restrictions during any Christmas but some did come into effect shortly after, I don't think people were allowed to visit. I remember us having a new year's party with our neighbours in the back garden, technically them not allowed to go into our house and having to stay 2 metres from them. Must have been December 2020.

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 25 points 3 months ago

There was a scandal that Boris Johnson held a Christmas party, when he told everyone else to not meet up. Wikipedia tells me, you guys had social restrictions during Christmas in 2020.

[-] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 3 points 3 months ago

We did but you could have a certain number of people over on Christmas. It then got much stricter just after Christmas.

[-] Anivia@feddit.org 9 points 3 months ago

At least in Germany during Christmas 2020 you were only allowed to have private parties with a maximum of 5 people, from a maximum of 2 households.

This was however not enforced unless some asshole snitched on your family

[-] tomcatt360@lemmy.zip 17 points 3 months ago

I mean you could just ask them to leave politely, firmly, and repeatedly, and if they don't, have the police arrest them for trespassing.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago

Just did that for Thanksgiving, would like to try a different approach for Christmas.

[-] Rusty@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

Just tell them about your favorite Linux distro and they soon be gone.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Go get the shotgun, son

[-] Free_Opinions@feddit.uk 9 points 3 months ago

I actually don't remember that. Where was this?

[-] nthavoc@lemmy.today 8 points 3 months ago

That's because it didn't happen unless you had a 600 family member reunion or block party in Florida.

[-] Atherel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 months ago

We had this regulation in Europe but it wasn't enforced unless you made a huge party. It was more an easy way out for people uncomfortable meeting others because of COVID without having to argue about it.

[-] AbsoluteChicagoDog@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

It never happened, this is just historical revisionism. Doubly so because the police will remove people from your house whenever you want.

[-] Leo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

It happened in Colombia too! Only gatherings of four people, no cars on the streets etc

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

It was probably a strongly suggested guideline instead of an actual ban.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 3 months ago

It never happened where? Because it did happen in the UK - which is clearly where we're talking about

[-] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

No, that didn't happen, I lived in the most COVID paranoid area of California, and I hadn't heard one paranoid take about any police being used to break up any parties

> Drunk Brits

> Coppers having to deal with them

Just another day in the glorious empire

[-] DillyDaily@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Wow, it's almost as if other places exist and had different responses to covid.

A quick google would reveal that police were used to enforce lock down measures in places such as UK and AUS.

Victoria Police alone gave out 39,985 covid lock down violation orders in the 2.5 years we had lockdown orders in place.

The Engagement party fined we all remember. Idiots.

General lockdown law breaking

Including such crimes as, playing video games with 3 people in a lounge room, and having 9 people over for dinner.

[-] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 8 points 3 months ago

It absolutely definitely happened in the UK. Not on Christmas day but not long after.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

"didn't happen to me, so it didn't happen"

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Mostly you’d show up on your neighborhood’s Facebook group.
