I have been trying to apply the pattern behind this chess opening but now i am stuck in this position. What is my best move?

(i am truly sorry)

Stop assuming my pawns' gender! Get your own gender, copycat!

Transitioning en passant

Can I be a trans-furry? (aka: be Overpowered AF)

[-] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Can a pawn change into another pawn? Asking for a very stupid friend

[-] letsgo@lemm.ee 10 points 3 days ago

https://handbook.fide.com/chapter/E012023 3.7.3.3 No.

It'd be an extreme edge case where not promoting would be useful.

[-] Cort@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Pawn can't capture sideways, how would it ever be useful?

Forcing stalemate if you're super down in material

[-] Mr_Fish@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Maybe if any promotion would lead to a stalemate

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 4 points 3 days ago

If your opponent plays strictly by a point system, like a computer might, and if the piece is threatened, it might be beneficial to keep the value low to trick the oppont to do something else, while you keep the useless pawn as an obstruction, which could somehow limit your opponent's future moves.

Anyway, it's apparantly not allowed.

[-] letsgo@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago

Well exactly. I can't think of one. It could only be useful in a situation where having a dead weight in a cell would solve some problem or other, but I've no idea how.

Fun fact: In most Indian languages, the queen is the advisor/minister, bishop is camel (rider), rook is elephant (rider), and knight is horse (rider).

Kinda makes more sense tbh. I mean, a tower? let's be real those can't move

attribution editI saved this off a while ago but couldn't find it. Did a DDG search and only found low res versions, but it gave me enough to find the one I saved. After I posted it I realized the one I had was scrubbed of the artist's info. Best I could find of the original has been moved to the post.

Looks like the author has a new website, and the only version available is a redraw:

Version I uploaded for reference:

And a Buttersafe take on this:

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 3 days ago

Hey if a woman can be King - it's happened, look it up - then a man can be Queen. Or in Queen.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

A man May be in Queen.

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Well, if I become a horse they just gonna put me down immediately (so a win),
if I become a derelict crumbing building I'll feel exactly the same way as now,
if I change gender that won't help me with my ugly,
and if I join a cult I better make sure it's the one following the dark (black) path.

So anyway a furry is the answer.

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Wait ... Can I play chess using nothing but knights? 🤔

I wouldn't capture the king. I would trample him under a stampede of horses.

[-] letsgo@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

Well in theory you could lose your queen, bishops and rooks, and promote all 8 pawns to knights. Your opponent would likely have to play along, possibly even doing the same.

[-] ruk_n_rul 4 points 3 days ago

Becoming a furry also turns you straightn't, this 💯% checks out

[-] Comment105@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

That's not just a furrry, look at the animal.

That pawn is considering going brony.

[-] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 3 days ago

Thank you for mentioning furries and not therians /srs

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

[looks up]

Ah, otherkin. Must be the early 2010s again.
