Image is of many Hamas soldiers supervising the handing over of Israeli hostages to cars heading out of the Gaza Strip.

After 15 months of genocide - and resistance to it - the Israeli regime realized that they could not win a military victory against Hamas, and were forced to sign a humiliating ceasefire in order to get their hostages returned.

With much of Syria under the control of Al-Qaeda, and an increasing level of covert infiltration into Lebanon, the crisis in the Middle East is not over, and we may still be in its beginning stages, as the center of hegemony continues its gradual shift away from the United States. Their navy, once considered the best in the world, is likely also not very happy about their ships and aircraft carriers being forced to retreat by Yemen, one of the poorest countries; and all eyes are on Iran, who has, over the last year and a half, demonstrated a newfound confidence and strength to directly strike Israel.

The recovery for Gaza will take, at a minimum, decades; it could indeed never fully recovery to even how it was before, considering it is not in Israel's interests to see their concentration camps recover. But Hamas has proven to be steadfast and the tunnel network has proven its resilience, despite facing some of the most powerful conventional bombing in history. This shows that Palestine's liberation is a when, not an if; and hopefully a much sooner "when" than expected before October 7th.

As predicted, the city of Goma in the DRC fell overnight. Danish Regime On Arctic Military Spending Spree

The Danish Social Democrat-led right-wing regime, has unveiled a DKK 15 billion plan to militarize the Arctic further. At a meticulously staged press conference, Troels Lund Poulsen, head of the Liberal Party-controlled Ministry of Defence. stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Vivian Motzfeldt, Greenland’s minister for foreign affairs and independence. The message to Washington was clear: Nuuk and Copenhagen stands united in the face of the American Trump regime's threats to annex Greenland by force.

It was also a message to Greenland, intended to placate the increasingly vocal calls for independence. Denmark is blue finally ready to treat you like equals, or at least pretend to.

The spending spree includes drones, satellites, naval vessels, and an expansion of Kangerlussuaq airport to accommodate F-35 warplanes—because nothing screams “Arctic sovereignty” like overpriced American death machines. This, of course, is only the first installment in what promises to be a series of exorbitant Arctic military packages. The regime, ever eager to prove its loyalty to the American NATO pact and its imperial master in Washington, has already burned through DKK 200 billion from a recent defense agreement. But fear not, Danish taxpayers: there’s always more money for war.

The agreement on the military splurge is made between the regime and several regime-loyal parties in Denmark's rubber-stamp parliament. Only the pro-democracy Red-Green and Alternative opposition parties had the decency to stay out of this madness.

Meanwhile, Greenland remains impoverished, its independence aspirations stifled by underdevelopment and economic dependency. Denmark’s schools are mismanaged, its hospitals chronically understaffed, and its public transit groans under neglect. But who cares about such trifles when there are warships to launch and drones to deploy? The regime’s priorities are clear: appease Washington, defy Moscow, and ignore the needs of its own civilian population.

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Danish scaremongering about Moscow always annoys me. If Russia invaded Denmark, we'd be in, at the very least, a massively violent regional conflict. It's not something that would happen out of the blue and it's not something we should prepare for, because the event itself would bring total destruction no matter what.

Denmark understood this in both world wars. It worked out in the first one, didn't in the second, that's how it goes.

The government of Colombia informs that it has overcome the impasse with the government of the United States.

Luis G. Murillo and Colombia's ambassador will travel to Washington for high-level meetings. Colombian deportees will be received in their home country.

“Official communiqué. The Government of Colombia informs that we have overcome the impasse with the government of the United States.

In this context, Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Murillo and Ambassador Daniel García Peña will travel to the city of Washington in the coming days to hold high-level meetings to follow up on the agreements resulting from the joint work that led to the exchange of diplomatic notes between the two governments.

We will continue to receive Colombians who return as deportees, guaranteeing them dignified conditions as citizens with rights. The Government of Colombia, under the directive of President Gustavo Petro, has arranged for the presidential plane to facilitate the return of the Colombian nationals who were to arrive in the country today in the morning on deportation flights.

Colombia ratifies that diplomatic channels of dialogue will be maintained to guarantee rights. The national interest and the dignity of our citizens. Thank you very much.”

Well it seems that despite the brave face and fiery rhetoric from Colombia, they have completely folded on the key issue towards the United States, the issue of the freedom of navigation for US military aircraft in Colombia. United States military aircraft are allowed to fly into Colombia unrestricted, including to deport migrants, according to a statement from the White House. In exchange, the sanctions and tarrifs on Colombia are placed in reserve, and the visa restrictions will be lifted as soon as the first US plane lands. Colombian president Gustavo Petro reposted this statement on twitter, before quickly deleting the repost.

Axios News: Trump pausing Colombia tariffs after migrants deal, White House says, 27 January 2025

So now the question is what does this mean for México, will they also fold to the US and allow US military transport aircraft to fly deportation flights inside their airspace? Colombia only managed to resist for half a day, and got made an example of quickly. The warning is loud and clear. The United States is prepared to follow through on their threats. Trump is actually serious about this, or at least playing the part. México don't really have many options here. I also think these kind of power moves will be very popular amongst the average US citizen, so there can be no reliance on any internal resistance to stop it.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 39 points 3 days ago

This makes me so fucking mad, I despise the US and anyone who lives there who supports this kind of imperialist bullshit.

[-] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 36 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

My guess is that Trump will find a few small countries to bully to make a big show about it. Then once everyone believes he’s serious, they’ll be more open to conceding to Trump’s proposals and demands.

His mistake last time was that everyone saw him as a clown and laughed him out of the room. He probably learned that lesson by now.

Also the Democrat libs are absolutely relishing in this. They really really want to see immigrants getting deported because “Latinos voted for Trump!” let’s see how they like it now

This is bad. The American Trump regime just learned that tariff bullying works. The rest of the world just learned what happens when you tell the evil empire no. They're going to do a lot more of that in years to come.

I seriously fucking hope that things like this is making everyone who's not the US start to seriously reduce their exposure to the yanks. On a sufficiently large timescale I hope China is going to grow enough economically and politically that the yanks lose their ability to do economic blackmail against the rest of the world.

Could they even do anything considering there already is US bases there?

[-] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

They could never really do anything even aside from that, their biggest trade partner is the US. It would be economic suicide to accept the tarrifs. They tried to negotiate by even offering the presidential plane to take migrants, and the US refused. The bravado by Petro of threatening counter tarrifs barely lasted a few hours before crashing down to reality. They'd be royally screwed in such a scenario. This was never even about the migrants really from a US perspective, it was about making an example out of a LATAM country.

Denmark Scrambles to Sweeten The Deal For Greenland With Racism Plan

Today Denmark’s Social Democrat-led right-wing regime, scrambling to keep its colonial house of cards from tumbling down, has unveiled a 12-point plan to combat racism against Greenlanders, a move widely seen as an attempt to placate growing calls for Greenlandic independence. This comes amid threats of a hostile annexation by the American Trump regime, which has repeatedly demanded to take over the island, disingenuously using anti-Greenlander racism to justify its ambitions.

Greenlanders in Denmark endure discrimination in housing, education, healthcare, and employment. They are often reduced to degrading caricatures in Danish imagination — either drunken layabouts or noble savages paddling kayaks in the icy Arctic waters. Their individuality and agency have been stripped away, replaced by a toxic cocktail of stereotypes and neglect.

For decades, Denmark’s political elite has made a blood sport of demonizing the nation’s Muslim minority and racism prevention has long been a low priority for Copenhagen, smugly dismissed as woke nonsense. But now, with Greenlandic independence demands growing louder and the American Trump regime’s predatory gaze fixed on the island, Denmark has suddenly discovered the virtues of equality. The plan includes measures like a Greenlandic nationality designation in passports, increased access to translators, initiatives against discrimination in education, and funding for cultural institutions and employment initiatives. In an unprecedented nod to equality, the initiative was announced in both Danish and Greenlandic press releases.

Greenlandic MP's initially slammed the leaked draft as inadequate, but added funding has muted their opposition and they now support the final version. The question now is whether these measures can undo generations of marginalization or if they’re merely delaying the inevitable, whether that inevitability is an independent Greenland or a brazen American land grab.

Jeremy Corbyn’s cat, El Gato has passed away

He was less popular with much of the wider media, and was – like me – subject to intense activity of the right-wing press who wished to smear his character. He was very much of the Left, and wanted a socially just and fair society.

Indeed, at one time he brought a stray cat into his orbit, sharing his shelter and food.

As this shows, El Gato was very empathetic to the needs of a homeless cat.

As clansman in chief quickly realizes the instability of the status quo and goes for the genocide accelerator:

You’re talking about probably a million and a half people. And we just clean out that whole thing. Over the centuries it’s had many, many conflicts, that site. And I don’t know, something has to happen.

Some people were paying attention to the 1.5 million number. Out of 2.4 million 16 months ago.

One a more hopeful note, if what I read is true, and the Arab regimes are not that stable, things could escalate very quickly if he tries to use the finesse he's bringing to his mandate.

In call with Lula, Putin 'showed interest' in group of countries that wants to negotiate peace in Ukraine. Brazil and China lead the 'Group of Friends of Peace', which has offered to mediate in the conflict. Ukrainian President Zelensky said last week that “Brazil's relevancy has already passed” in this negotiation.

The Brazilian president said that the two leaders (Putin) also spoke about the BRICS - a group that brings together some of the world's main emerging economies - which is under Brazilian chairmanship this year. They also talked about the need to facilitate trade and investment between the members of the bloc.

President Petro put out this I translated to English

Trump, I don't really like traveling to the USA, it's a bit boring, but I confess there are commendable things, I like to go to the Black neighborhoods of Washington, there I saw an entire fight in the capital of the USA between Blacks and Latinos with barricades, which seemed silly to me, because they should unite.

I confess that I like Walt Whitman and Paul Simon and Noam Chomsky and Miller.

I confess that Sacco and Vanzetti, who have my blood, in the history of the USA, are memorable and I follow them. They were murdered for being labor leaders with the electric chair, the fascists who are inside the USA as within my own country.

I don't like your oil, Trump, it will end the human species because of greed. Perhaps someday, over a glass of whiskey that I would accept, despite my gastritis, we can talk frankly about this, but it's difficult because you consider me an inferior race and I am not, nor is any Colombian.

So if you know someone stubborn, that's me, period. You can with your economic power and your arrogance try to stage a coup d'état like they did with Allende. But I will die upholding my principles, I resisted torture and I resist you. I don't want enslavers next to Colombia, we already had many and we freed ourselves. What I want next to Colombia are lovers of freedom. If you cannot accompany me, I will go elsewhere. Colombia is the heart of the world and you didn't understand, this is the land of yellow butterflies, of the beauty of Remedios, but also of the colonels Aureliano Buendía, of whom I am one of them, perhaps the last one.

You will kill me, but I will survive in my people who are before yours, in the Americas. We are peoples of the winds, the mountains, of the Caribbean Sea and of freedom.

You do not like our freedom, fine. I do not shake hands with white slavers. I shake the hands of white libertarians, heirs of Lincoln and of the young Black and white farmers of the USA, before whose tombs I wept and prayed in a battlefield, which I reached after walking mountains of the Italian Tuscany and after saving myself from Covid.

They are the USA and before them I kneel, before no one else.

Overthrow me president and the Americas and humanity will respond to you.

Colombia now stops looking north, looks at the world, our blood comes from the blood of the Caliphate of Cordoba, civilization at that time, of the Roman Latins of the Mediterranean, civilization at that time, who founded the republic, democracy in Athens; our blood has the resistant Blacks turned into slaves by you. In Colombia is the first free territory of America, before Washington, of all of America, there I take refuge in their African songs.

My land is of goldsmithing existing in the time of the Egyptian pharaohs, and of the first artists of the world in Chiribiquete.

You will never dominate us. The warrior who rode our lands, shouting freedom and who is called Bolívar opposes you.

Our peoples are somewhat fearful, somewhat timid, they are naive and kind, loving, but they will know how to win back the Panama Canal, which you took from us with violence. Two hundred heroes from all of Latin America lie in Bocas del Toro, current Panama, before Colombia, whom you murdered.

I raise a flag and as Gaitán said, even if I am left alone, it will remain hoisted with Latin American dignity which is the dignity of America, which your great-grandfather did not know, and mine did, Mr. President immigrant in the USA.

Your blockade does not scare me; because Colombia, besides being the country of beauty, is the heart of the world. I know you love beauty as I do, do not disrespect it and it will offer you its sweetness.

COLOMBIA FROM TODAY OPENS TO THE WHOLE WORLD, WITH OPEN ARMS, WE ARE BUILDERS OF FREEDOM, LIFE AND HUMANITY.

I am informed that you put a 50% tariff on our fruit of human labor to enter the USA, I will do the same.

Let our people sow corn that was discovered in Colombia and feed the world. source in spanish(x link)

An update on the United States migrant deportation flights situation: After México blocked US military transport planes deporting immigrants from using their airspace (a story first broken by us on hexbear, believe it or not, we actually managed to get something right and beat the mainstream media), Colombia decided to do the same. This led to the rather embarrassing scenario of the two C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft having to turn around mid flight.

The United States and Trump have decided to respond, and are not taking this lightly. Trump has now implemented, effective immediately (according to himself):

  • 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the U.S. from Colombia, that will rise to 50% after one week.

  • A travel ban and visa revocation of all Colombian government officals.

  • Visa sanctions on all party members of the Colombian Government, and their 'allies'.

  • State treasury, banking and financial sanctions.

  • Enhanced border inspections of Colombian citizens and cargo.

So it has begun... He's actually going to do it, not that I expected him not to, deportation of illegal immigrants has popular support inside the USA (which only grew as Trump got closer to taking office) and Trump will definitely make very public displays of power and force here.

My takeaway: this is a warning shot towards México; they either let the US deportation flights use their airspace and maybe even land in México itself, or México will face the same sanctions as Colombia.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announces a 25% tax on all products imported from the United States. Petro also ordered the expansion of exports to the rest of the world, “except to the US”.

“Colombia has now stopped looking to the north, to look to the world,” says Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia. He threatens to tax the United States by 50%.

Gustavo Petro is due to call Brazilian President Lula da Silva to discuss the United States' commercial position on Latin America. One of the possibilities is to secure Colombia's entry into the BRICS.
