Summary

Elon Musk called for U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer's impeachment after the judge blocked his department, DOGE, from accessing sensitive Treasury records.

DOGE has faced criticism for its broad data access. Engelmayer ruled that only specialized civil servants could access Treasury records and ordered DOGE to destroy any obtained data.

Musk and GOP figures condemned the ruling, but judicial impeachment remains rare, with only eight judges removed since 1803.

The next court hearing is set for February 14.

Judge disagrees with my illegal actions?

Just call for an impeachment

Welcome to 2025

Musk’s latest judicial meltdown proves he’s allergic to consequences. When the courts don’t bow to his tantrums, he screams “impeachment” like a toddler demanding a new toy chest. Newsflash, Elon: judges aren’t your code monkeys.

His “free speech absolutist” shtick crumbles faster than a Dogecoin rug pull. Now he’s just another billionaire brat trying to bully the legal system because it dared to… checks notes… enforce laws. Meanwhile, his fanboys spin conspiracy theories while European regulators laugh into their actual rulebooks.

Democracy’s a dumpster fire? Absolutely. But watching Musk speedrun institutional collapse for clout? Priceless.

Democracy’s a dumpster fire? Absolutely. But watching Musk speedrun institutional collapse for clout? Priceless. couldn't have said it better myself.

[-] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 year ago

GOP is going to impeach and replace judges across the board, calling it now.

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

They don't have that much of a majority. They can impeach but there's enough Democrats in the Senate to block it.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 38 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Musk, who called it "absolutely insane," saying it prevents him from exposing alleged fraud in the federal government.

that's what the inspectors general do, or rather did before they were axed.

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 19 points 1 year ago

I'm curious why nobody in authority or the media has publicly questioned how he was single-handedly able to uncover so much fraud in $5+ trillion worth of transactions with zero prior experience or knowledge of these systems all in a week's worth of time. He's so obviously full of shit here.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

It's easy when your definitions of "fraud" is "anything I don't personally like".

Great video, but long. Here's a clip of the boy who thinks we are stupid and the MSM backing him up by omitting a vital detail.

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

"I said no bits!"

[-] Blade9732@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but those guys use facts and figures and stuff. This way, Elon can manipulate anything he wants to do whatever they want. Much easier way to allow a fascist takeover.

[-] APassenger@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

This.

He's not against fraud. He wants to pick the winners and losers. That's how kleptocracies work.

[-] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

The fraud is in plain sight

[-] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 year ago

Majority of the US calls for musk to be jailed, trialed for treason and to never see the light of day again. Deal with that first before musks useless claims

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

jailed

Not the word I've been using.

The punishment for treason is death, the GOP supports the death penalty so let's use it

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Honestly if I thought we could keep him in jail, that would be my preference. I couldn't imagine how miserable he would be... If you take Ketamine everyday do you get withdrawals if you stop?

[-] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

It does have withdrawal symptoms, and they're not fun, but they are usually not deadly.

[-] P1nkman@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Does it rhyme with filled? If so, I'm all for it.

[-] Plastic_Ramses@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Krilled?

I dont think id ever give this man a shrimp in my life.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Majority? Where did you get that from?

Free impeach absolutist

[-] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@sopuli.xyz 21 points 1 year ago

More proof that Trump and Musk are co-tyrants by definition, the only checks and balances they care about are their bank ledgers, and they see the US Constitution as a speed bump.

[-] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 year ago

There's likely no way to say the DB they obtained is deleted without a copy. They should behave like it is stolen and can't be deleted, there's no way to gracefully walk back once it's obtained, and any known further leak should be linked to that if not proven otherwise.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Ya, it's really hard to prove something like this in any situation.

You do the best you can to enforce it, but when you inevitably miss a hidden copy, at least if it gets exposed in the future you have them on violating a court order.

If that means anything anymore anyway.

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

This is the point of not return. This shit doesn't happen until it's too late.

[-] Maiq@lemy.lol 3 points 1 year ago

Absolutely correct! After this there is no other option outside revolution. We americans have to shake off the Russian "and then it got worse" mentality and start fighting.

First step is general strike. If that fails we have no choices but submission or revolution.

We have to general strike now!

[-] ZigZagZebra@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Hitler also went after lawyers and the courts. In April 1933, Hitler passed one of the earliest antisemitic laws, purging Jewish and also Socialist judges, lawyers, and other court officers from their professions.

[-] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

Quick reality check, what would happen to any of us if we said shit to a judge?

Something something contempt of court

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 year ago

We wouldn't be able to post about it later.

[-] smeenz@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

Outside of a court room ? Most likely nothing at all.

[-] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I find that in life you can measure how much of a good idea something is for everyone else by how loud the trust fund baby in the group is screeching. The louder the better.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The what baby? I do not get it.

[-] baronvonj@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

A "trust fund baby" is someone who was born rich. It also generally contacted an over-inflater sense of accomplishment and worth. People like like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.

[-] smeenz@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

A trust fund baby is someone born into wealth

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This administration is "Oops! All trust fund babies"

[-] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

He's like the worlds weakest bully. "How dare you say that to me!? Somebody punch this guy for me."

[-] HK65@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

He doesn't know how to do anything besides buying things.

[-] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I dunno, he seems to know how to do drugs fairly well.

[-] duckCityComplex@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Have we reached the point where we don't even bother to make up a fake crime or improper behavior the official is supposed to have committed that justifies their impeachment?

He should just be impeached because he ruled against Musk doing what he wants? I guess I appreciate the honesty.

[-] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago
[-] matengor@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

Of course he does. Let's see where this gets him. I guess the chances for impeachment are more than slim.

[-] DancingBear@midwest.social 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nah, they don’t have 2/3rds in the Senate

[-] baronvonj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

They might if it's a secret vote.
