Maybe I am too young to have this opinion but I refuse to use emojis and only use emoticons, they feel more personal to me.
I'm probably just old but it's always faster to type :) than it is to find the 🙂, same goes for every emoji really.
Also they convey slightly different emotions

I was thinking about this earlier, it might just be me but I always thought the new generation of slang was just kind of lame. Of course I'm biased but like it just seems like there's not that much variety. It's just like the 14 or so different phrases they keep saying. Branch out my dudes
