At what point do we admit there's no good will left? Like, who really has any positive thoughts towards WotC as a company in the public?

Like the article points out, there's a list of bullshit they've pulled in recent times. Shit, this D&D One nonsense is starting to feel even more divisive than 4E, and I was slinging books back during that release, I remember the way people acted.

It was only like a year ago they sent literal Pinkertons after some guy who accidently got some product early lmao

Yea I thought it was kinda goofy that the article frames this as some PR nightmare, like WotC had good public relations until just now.

WOTC has no goodwill. and no one ahould expect anything good from them.

regardless of the situation though, WOTC does have a section detailing what kinds of fan content is okay, which is virtually limited to photos. it explicitly mentions that content should not be downloadable, as well as to not put its IP in other games explicitly.

Nexus is staying optimistic: "Hopefully, this is an oversight from WotC, who often use external agencies to hunt down violating content, and they will revert their decision. Fingers crossed for Baldur's Village."

So cool and normal we have companies dedicated to trawling the Internet to find violating content, who then presumably stretch the definitions of copyright to include taking down innocent content, to justify their own existence to begin with.

IP and the extent you have to go to 'enforce it' will always be the world's biggest gag.

Finding out too late I could have been in lesbians with Karlach in two games :(

Update: I have to return some video tapes

What about this?

Update: In a statement sent to PC Gamer on Monday, Wizards of the Coast said that the DMCA takedown notice was issued in error: "The Baldur's Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenly—we are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!"

Did they have A.I. or an overzealous lawyer pull the trigger?

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 5 days ago

There has been news of companies not dissimilar to WotC hiring other companies that use AI to find trademark/copyright infringement and file automated DMCA requests. Could be like that.

I hadnt seen that. They sent me a Swen Vincke tweet. Apparently he did alot to move things.

As of 4 hours ago they said they were still waiting on an update from Nexus.

I will always defend mod creators, except when its Fallout the Frontier

There's also that guy who tried making an "Lore-Friendly All-White Commonwealth" mod for Fallout 4. Or the dipshits who tried that for Stellaris while putting a neonazi "defend muh evropa" link in the desc.

I know there are also a lot of make certain character white mods in most bioware rpgs. Or Dorian straight, which is like half erasing of his story smh
