Literally came here to say "Didn't that happen years ago?"

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Genuinely. Guess he just wasn't convicted.

Edit: thanks for the link btw

It's always the ones you most suspect.

Wait I recognise those eyebrows from the CEO murder CCTV

[-] jbone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 day ago

I feel like this already happened.

[-] justsquigglez@lemm.ee 25 points 1 day ago

How unsurprising

[-] HornedMeatBeast@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

I've always found him to be creepy, just got that feeling from him.

I cringe every time I see him.

[-] Tramort@programming.dev 8 points 1 day ago

Didn't he find religion so that he could escape these consequences?

I don't think he's ever been charged, this is just the result of the police investigation into the allegations that were raised in the Channel 4 documentary a few years ago.

[-] atro_city@fedia.io -1 points 1 day ago

The important word here is "charged". He hasn't been convicted. Until it's been proven, I don't think anybody here can claim to know that he's innocent nor guilty.

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

He's a right wing grifter with a history of shitty behavior and multiple allegations going back years. I feel confident in my assessment of Russell Brand as a worthless piece of shit. Unless you're a court of law you don't owe him the benefit of doubt.

[-] atro_city@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

That's your opinion. Him being an asshole or not is neither proof (nor lack thereof) of his guilt. And if you know for sure he's a rapist, submit the proof to the court. The alleged victims would be very happy to have it.

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Yes, my opinion is that the sketchy grifter with a history of shitty behavior and years worth of allegations is likely guilty of doing the bad shit he gets accused of. Its a logical conclusion based on the facts available. As I said, I'm not a court. I am free to draw my own conclusions. What's wrong?

[-] atro_city@fedia.io -4 points 1 day ago

If your argument is that you're free to have an opinion, that's not much of an argument. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My argument is that Russell Brand is a piece of shit and I'm glad he is facing justice.

!remindme 1 year to make fun of you after he's convicted.

[-] Dasus@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago

Right wing?

Really?

I mean I haven't followed the guy's politics at all, I just know him from some British panel show appearance from like 15-20 years ago.

Obnoxious, but I would've guessed far left instead of right wing.

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

After some previous allegations he got slightly canceled and responded by moving towards the right and getting into their conspiracy BS. I think he is one of the stops on the granola to MAGA pipeline now, if you're into woo woo spirituality babble and are politically ignorant he is there to lead you down a path.

There's others as well, even without the aid of Brand that's a well known pipeline. At least for me. I know several girls who went from slightly pissy and into spiritual bs to pretty much HC right-wing.

It’s logically possible that he’s innocent, but, all evidence considered, it’s not terribly likely.

It’s somewhat more likely that he’ll walk, though rich, well-connected dudes have a way of evading consequences.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 1 day ago

Rumors around his misconduct has been circulating for years.

You ain't wrong but if police actually filing charges now, I am guessing there is enough evidence for prosecution to feel confident about taking to trial.

Alleged crimes did happen pre 2005 so I am not sure what evidence there is beyond she said, he said though.

[-] alykanas@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

Sir this is the internet

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago

Incorrect. He's definitely guilty. He has resting rapist face. When he walks into an elevator, everyone is like phwoah, what smells of rapist? Because Russel brand is definitely a rapist.

[-] atro_city@fedia.io 6 points 1 day ago

How do you know? What evidence do you have?

Should everybody just be judged by the way they look?

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 16 points 1 day ago

He has multiple credible rape allegations going back years.

He supports ideologies that encourage hurting others.

His peers are known rapists.

He's active in an explicitly pro-rape social scene.

He's rich and famous, which neurologically reduces your brain's capacity for empathy and encourages more harmful behaviors.

Russel Brand exists in a social environment that permits harming others and specifically encourages rape, and he has reduced cognitive barriers to harming others. As an organism, his social and cognitive environment is a strong incentive to commit rape and multiple witnesses say he has.
