Image is allegedly of the note Trump wrote while editing a speech while on the way back from the G20 summit.

The top Russian-Chinese agent, Donald Trump, has decided that the pace of dedollarization and the decline of American financial hegemony is going too slowly. He has therefore decided to put tariffs on everybody; from America's largest trading partners to uninhabited islands. In the process, he is trying to create an autarkic America. Jokes aside, interpretation and analysis of this has ranged across a wide spectrum. I think we can broadly agree that the most idiotic are the "true believers"; those that actually believe Trump's every word, and that this will somehow bring back American manufacturing and whatever other inane promises he has made.

However, there is a much more interesting debate. The first camp are those who believe Trump is acting as an inadvertent accelerationist due to his lack of understanding about how the world economy and dollar hegemony functions (and that this will subsequently ensure that countries flock to China instead). The second camp are those who believe that Trump does know what he's doing, at least to a certain extent, and that the effective result of this period of madness will be countries kowtowing to the United States; renegotiating trade deals to be even more in favor of the US in order to get tariffs reduced. There's even a yet more cynical camp who believes that in fact, this entire trade war is just theater for further national wealth redistributions from poor to rich; that all these monumental international trade wars are more of a sideshow. To quote the linked article: "[...] out of the mountain of tariffs that threaten to turn into a global trade war will emerge the mouse of further tax cuts."

I'm not embarrassed to admit that I have absolutely no idea which one of these is the closest model to reality. We're in new economic and political ground, and even if the tariffs are quickly renegotiated and/or dropped, the impacts will continue to reverberate around the world for years. I'm sure we'll debate this for months to come here, though!

Lmao, apparently Trump is now calling the tariff exemption "fake news." Here's the content of his Truth Social post, which is apparently now how trade policy is being "clarified."

spoilerNOBODY is getting “off the hook” for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other Countries have used against us, especially not China which, by far, treats us the worst! There was no Tariff “exception” announced on Friday. These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff “bucket.” The Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it. We are taking a look at Semiconductors and the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN in the upcoming National Security Tariff Investigations. What has been exposed is that we need to make products in the United States, and that we will not be held hostage by other Countries, especially hostile trading Nations like China, which will do everything within its power to disrespect the American People. We also cannot let them continue to abuse us on Trade, like they have for decades, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! The Golden Age of America, which includes the upcoming Tax and Regulation Cuts, a substantial amount of which was just approved by the House and Senate, will mean more and better paying Jobs, making products in our Nation, and treating other Countries, in particular China, the same way they have treated us. The bottom line is that our Country will be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. We will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Mearsheimer has given an interview to one of the Finnish tabloid rags and this also made the national news today which was citing the tabloid article.

The article part tries to shit on him but also states his views on how he thinks Finland joining nato was a mistake, the Finnish president is a lib and that the Ukraine war is the result of nato expansion. This might be worth reading via translate as the tabloid tries very hard to undermine his opinions, but as they try to be nuanced, it largely fails in this.

The article seems to have 1000 comments, but those can't be read without signing into their site. That is a lot of cope for a country this size.

Every monday I do my weekly cleaning and I've been a bit more busy with getting my garden ready for the summer and I've actually quite enjoyed listening to Bloomberg, because as time goes on the people become more and more unhinged so that I'm completely convinced that we are mere weeks away from investment managers calling Trump all kinds of slurs on open air and a financial guy for Blackrock or Vanguard getting caught with a bomb vest strapped on in a months time.

Anyways there's one thing I heard which I will repeat by some italian investment guy that basically comes down to:

The current situation is because of a three way game of chicken between Trump, Xi and the US Fed Bank, whoever blinks first loses and both the Fed and Xi know that their positions are really strong so they won't blink and Trump is a delusional dumb ass so the trade war and current situation will continue to escalate. The only hope is if companies sue Trump for overstepping what he can or can't do as the president and the courts agree with them, which uh. I guess that's the lib version of the Business Coup but who knows how this develops.

There Will Be No Return to the 1991 Borders: Russian FM Lavrov - Telesur English

Article

Russia calls on the international community to accept ‘the reality on the ground’ in Ukraine. On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that “under no circumstances” will Russia return to the 1991 borders, when Ukraine became independent from the Soviet Union.

“Never and under no circumstances. And the Trump administration understands that as well — it has stated more than once that Zelensky will have to accept the territorial issue,” he said.

Lavrov, whose country expanded its territory through the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula and four other regions, emphasized that “a return to the 1991 borders, as Zelensky continues to demand, is impossible.”

“If only because people live in those territories whom Zelensky considers to be ‘creatures’. He said it more than once before the start of the special military operation,” Lavrov remarked, while attending a meeting of foreign ministers from the post-Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the Kazakh city of Almaty.

In this regard, he noted that while the United States wants to address the root causes of the current conflict in Ukraine, Europe refuses to do so. Russia is calling on the international community to accept the “reality on the ground” in Ukraine, which implies Russian control over nearly 20% of the neighboring country’s territory. Currently, the Russian army is launching a new offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions to create a security zone along the border.

Apparently Avelo airlines has become the first/only commercial airline to publicly announce a contract with ICE for doing deportation. Usually it's little charter airlines that do it.

Can't resist those juicy PIC moneys for enhanced profit!

USA Today: Why are tens of thousands of people boycotting this little-known airline?

Original URLhttps://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/04/11/avelo-airlines-boycotts-ice-deportation/83054584007/

Excerpts

Around 30,000 people have signed a petition to boycott the small airline after Avelo made a deal with ICE to carry out deportation flights.

A little-known airline is facing backlash from tens of thousands of people after the company agreed to carry out deportation flights for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Avelo's entry into the deportation business comes as the Trump administration needs more planes to move detainees from one state to another and then to deport them from the U.S. to other countries. Avelo announced the contract with immigration authorities in early April.

Goff said the airline also carried out deportation flights for the Biden administration. Neither the company nor federal immigration authorities responded to questions about those flights.

The ultra-low-cost airline will fly deportation flights for the Department of Homeland Security on three of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport starting on May 12. The flights will travel internationally and domestically.

It’s unusual for a commercial airline to carry out deportation flights. Immigration authorities, the U.S. military or charter airlines typically operate the flights, according to Thomas Cartwright, who tracks deportation flights for immigrant rights group Witness at the Border.

Don't worry, though. 30k people have signed a petition!!!!

And, sorry/not sorry: because I found this gem of an opinion piece by a genocidal liberal fuckwit apologizing for this "just doing business" nonsense, you have to read it too.

Avelo Airlines — neither woke nor broke (apparently—according to Startpage—originally titled "Anger at Avelo deportation flights is misplaced. Here's why."

Original URLhttps://ctmirror.org/2025/04/13/avelo-deportation-flights-protest/

Excerpts

Connecticut’s favorite local airline, Avelo, is in trouble for making a strategic business decision: taking a long-term contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to fly deportation flights for the Department of Homeland Security.

Starting in May they’re dedicating three of their 20 737 jets to fly from Mesa, Ariz. to destinations both in the U.S. and overseas (presumably flying over the “Gulf of America”) possibly even heading to El Salvador to deliver deportees to prisons there.

The public reaction, while understandable, is misplaced.

Avelo is a common carrier airline. Their business is flying planes, not passing judgement on passengers or destinations.

They’ve even flown deportation flights for ICE during the Biden administration… and nobody complained.

They even provided charters for the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016. This is their business: flying.

If you’re upset with ICE’s deportations, isn’t your anger better directed at them? Where are the legal appeals? Penalizing or boycotting Avelo won’t stop the deportations.

Taking on the ICE charters, they say, is a way of subsidizing their low fares as we face an economic recession and keeping their employees on payroll.

If protesters would “read the room” they’d realize that many of Avelo’s passengers probably support the deportations. After all, President Trump is only doing what he promised and what got him elected.

The airline is only doing this because it allows you your cheap tourism, folks. We all know that flying commercial passengers is done out of the goodness of their hearts, and will continue despite not being profitable (enough), so long as they can get better money from ICE! Sorry, but the ethnic cleansing is necessary for you to have your treats! And, after all, you can't blame the furnace companies for supplying the Nazis or anything; they were just in the business of making furnaces!

US Offensive in Yemen Leaves Tragic Toll on Civilians - Telesur English

Article

US airstrikes in Yemen under Trump-era orders result in 107 civilian deaths, worsening the humanitarian crisis. Yemen condemns attacks as UN Charter violations.

Since mid-March, under the order of former President Donald Trump, the US military aggression in Yemen has resulted in devastating consequences. According to reports from Yemen’s Health Ministry, at least 107 civilians have been killed and 223 others injured, with the majority of victims being women and children.

Recently, eastern Sana’a became the epicenter of new US airstrikes. Four bombings struck the Rijam area in Bani Hushayh district, east of the capital, while additional attacks were reported in Al-Nahdain, south of Sana’a. These incidents have worsened Yemen’s already dire humanitarian crisis.

The Health Ministry also reported rising casualties in the western province of Hodeidah, where 12 fatalities and 15 injuries were recorded, including women and children. Debris removal efforts continue, underscoring the scale of destruction caused by the strikes.

Yemeni authorities have condemned these attacks as a “blatant violation of the UN Charter,” which prohibits the use of force against a state’s territorial integrity and political independence. A statement from Yemen’s Foreign Ministry strongly denounced US actions, emphasizing their disproportionate impact on civilians.

This situation, already marked by years of conflict and humanitarian collapse, deteriorates with each airstrike, leaving vulnerable populations exposed to even greater suffering.
