The Beaverton kinda nailed it with this one: US campaign entices Canada tourists: “Come visit America and also maybe El Salvador!”
The ads list various popular American destinations: “Visit Disney World, the Grand Canyon, or –depending on the contents of your cellphone– maybe even extend your vacation indefinitely in the most terrifying penal colony El Salvador has to offer! Book now!”
Who would've thought that tourists don't want to randomly be detained during their vacation
Is making BDS America a reality. OMG.
Europe is boycotting, China is divesting. Sanctions are next I guess.
Do self-inflicted sanctions count?
canada is boycotting too. I love it.
There's no point in America's history where the Statue of Liberty wasn't a weirdly dystopian middle finger to actual immigrants but I imagine the irony is particularly obvious to would-be visitors now.
the irony is particularly obvious to ~~would-be visitors~~ now
Westerners
I imagine most global Southerners were already sharply aware; white Westerners are only upset cause now they're being treated like brown people
we're gonna be winning so much you're gonna be tired of winning
Where the fuck does a tourist in America even go? It's a shithole country
Unfortunately there are so many beautiful places I couldn't begin to count them
they will be liberated from this evil nation because I could never recommend anyone spend any time in this cesspool of a country
the national parks system was p cool. I went to several out west and met some cool tourists from overseas. mostly the anglosphere.
I totally do not understand why anyone would visit the cities though. they are fucked.
like at best they get to go home with a story about how they saw the cops murder somebody or caught a glimpse of the opiate crisis. grimdark edgy vacation highlight. maybe something amusing like "I saw a guy eat 64 oz of steak"... like some real Dante's Inferno type of travelogue.
Maybe I should stop arguing for aspects of the US lol, but again there's so much amazing art and music especially from marginalized ppl in US cities, it just happens to be created in the middle of a decaying, shambling fascist empire so you should definitely stay the fuck away until the beast has stopped breathing.
I just hope the art and cool people survive outside of archaeological records
A lot of major cities have extensive art collections in museums. Chicago, New York, and DC have amazing stuff you won't find collected together anywhere else. Rome, Tokyo, Mecca, Cairo, and Paris are like the holy sites of art. You can find all of them together in the US.
The Art Institute of Chicago is a favorite of mine and it's full of beautiful & irreplaceable works from pretty much all eras of history. I would hate to see it all destroyed by this fucking devil country.
I have been told that New York City is great for shopping if you are into that sort of thing and has that kind of money.
if you are "into" shopping you belong in a re-education camp. greed and gluttony are vile.
Depends on what you like. Going by raw numbers, Disneyworld and various tourist traps in NY and LA. Outside of that you have a lot of beautiful natural wildlife that’s just nice to relax and admire.
The thing about USA is it’s not one thing. It is a very large place. You can talk to 1,000 different people with completely different experience and perspective on the country.
It’s more appropriate to discuss on a municipal/regional basis because similarities start to fall off after that, other than generic shared culture like McDonalds.
Mostly parks and wildlife ie the parts of the US that was taken care of through Indigenous stewardship and that the settlers haven't completely ruined (although they try their hardest and are continuing to try).
eh, you can spend a day or two walking around NYC, there's plenty of interesting stuff to see. just looking at the streets and buildings of any new city is always interesting. peoplewatching can be fun too.
and then there's all the stuff you can do, like looking at looted egyptian stuff in the museum.
I’ll be impressed if this stays when a Dem gets into office
If it wasn't humiliating us greatly in front of other Western countries it probably would
Good.
I'm so glad.
so many of the foreign tourists that come to america are the worst, most greedy, most selfish, richest scum from their countries. they are the people who love luxury brands and have never had to work a day in their lives, and think capitalism is awesome. they are the small minded bloodsuckers obsessed with being rich or famous over seeing justice for those who have suffered through their entire lives.
every tourist that is attracted to the disgusting image of america it sells around the world should be put in a gulag upon entering america, like capitalism-loving moths to the flame.
Hoggery really is a religion lmao.
They’re so married to capitalism they’re actually a net-negative for capitalism.
that's not losing, that's not-earning.
lol

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
