It didn't suddenly go that way. It was always the plan. A loss leader.
Well it's open source android, if the code is bad, it's jettisoned. While I cannot stand Google, not every line of code they write is trash.
The sandbox is good and you do not need to install Play if you do not want to. I use f droid where possible.
I want Linux Mobile but it is not ready yet. In the mean time, this is the best we have.
Gaming company lays off staff and complains it's not making enough games...
Do they hear themselves?
Welcome, and keep up the good work. Good to see you here.
Even if you don't like communists. Politics plays a big part in open source for many, and giving power to people and away from corporations. While we were all happy and content on reddit, those guys were grinding away to build something for people. It did not appear over night. To some extent it is what drives and motivates people. I understand you are not communist and don't agree with the philosophy, but it's worth at least respecting that it plays a part in how people operate and is a reason why they self-sacrifice the way they do.
I'm personally a socialist and don't agree with tankies support of certain countries administrations (past and present), but share a similar view of the world in wanting power in the hands of people, not corporations. I think we need to go further to respect other people's views, even if we do not agree with them. Shitting all over them (and the platform) based on their views while supporting the thing they build does feel somewhat disrespectful. It's the same as religion in some ways. You can fundamentally disagree with a religion while conducting yourself in a respectful manner when around those that differ from your views.
Imagine saying "I didn't want to use x because of the creators , but later realised the religious view didn't impose on my own, so I have given it another shot."
I think we need to get to a world where we can be respectful of people having different views even if we do not agree with them and would be quite happy to deconstruct it in debate.
It does give anti-SystemD "why make new when what we got now is good vibes".
Their Java bashing was more a criticism of design patterns than Java, but fell into the meme bashing of tech based on one example. Find an old bug and say tech is dreadful as a result.
Become a professional, then you'll commit every time you make a small bit of functionality. If you're doing massive changes like this, you haven't broken something after multiple days of code enough. When you do that and you have no idea what you broke it with and when, it conditions you towards small iterable chunks.
The thing is, if they don't offer these cheap stuff, they may have to do something crazy, like pay staff what they are worth. This definitely looks like a false economy.
It still is more browser share for Chromium. Business owners will see that share and use it as part of the business case in implementing WEI. If you want it stopped, you gotta use a real alternative such as Firefox.
I don't agree, it is perfectly normal to spy on people and make sure they're not committing a crime. I'm sure execs of these companies and those politicians would be fine with that if we were watching from their windows just to make sure they aren't using illegal content... /s
I'm British. We don't have the accent American's think we do. We're far more scummy and swear far more. Proudly working class, and proudly unpretentious.
If you aren't using Firefox yet. Start, ASAP.
Google tried to exert control on the internet with web manifest v3 and now again here. Letting google dictate web standards is a mistake. Using Firefox shows companies they need to support more than chrome.
She went to war with unions and the working class. Destroyed workers rights, used the police to antagonise and dismantle strikes, left towns and cities in economic decline. She screwed a LOT of people. Many hate her here.
