Others have suggested Democrats need to rely less on big donors and more on small donations in order to have credibility with the constituents they’re trying to win over.

I don't think the small donors are any happier than the big donors...

spin off their own political party

I think the idea behind organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America and the Working Families Party is to have party-like organizations that work within the Democratic party so they don't act as "spoilers" given the 2-party system. (I could be wrong about that tho...)

Surprised Pikachu, obviously.

Hey fam! I'm not doing anything on christmas day, and @friendless@lemmy.blahaj.zone had a post today where they said they didn't have anything that day either.

How about on christmas day all of us get together on a post somewhere and talk! You know, we can just chat like we're at a party or something?! We can post images and song links and... I dunno... type out song lyrics and complete each other's sentences and stuff?

Maybe we can make it a megathread on a community like... hm...

what do ya say?!?

Now that you say it, I can see it. at 0:12, Leo locks eyes with Rookie. Rookie's challenging, so at 0:15 Leo shifts his paws over. That was a clear message that Rookie's being rude and should look away, but he doesn't, so Leo corrects him -- not even too harshly. The funniest part is Leo's old lady going: "leave him alone, he's just a dumbass and he won't understand."

Regarding "Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah", Daniel Martin-McCormick, in a review for Pitchfork, commented: "By allowing soulful prettiness alongside more vicious passages, Sanders opens the album up, connecting the dots between joyful communion and unflinching catharsis. A squalling solo toward the end of the side sounds like a cry from the deepest, most tortured part of his soul, but it's supported by an unerringly mellow piano accompaniment... It's a moment of deep vulnerability in a genre can often devolve into macho blowing contests."

...

Writing for Treblezine, Jeff Terich remarked: "Jewels of Thought... heightens the juxtaposition of Sanders' more mellifluous compositions against his most radical. Its first side, 'Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah,' begins with a plea for peace and a vocal delivery from Leon Thomas that's nearly as far-out as Sanders' saxophone is on its flipside. Yet ultimately this composition—a soulful call for understanding and love—is among Sanders' most hypnotic grooves, a breathtaking 15 minutes driven largely by Lonnie Liston Smith's stunning piano...."

...

In a review for Aquarium Drunkard, M. Garner wrote: "Smith's playing is bright, easy, lyrical, and, perhaps most importantly given the level of questing going on around it, familiar. On... 'Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah-Hum-Allah,' he gives Sanders a spruced-up base from which to launch, but Sanders seems just as happy to follow his pianist. The two play around one another cheerfully, each occasionally departing to take a solo trip through the sky before returning to the ground. Around them, the song develops with the same natural grace. Even as Sanders trills and Roy Haynes and Idris Muhammad count out counter-rhythms, a feeling of mutual wonder permeates the playing."

Back in the 80s and 90s there was this cartoonist called Ace Backwords who would give out his cartoons so you could reprint them for free. He did a lot of them about counter-culture topics, so if you had a newsletter or zine and you needed content, a lot of times you'd put in an Ace Backwords cartoon. (this was just before the internet era, so you had a lot more newsletters and zines.)

Ace Backwords quit cartooning in the early 2000s. Now he "sleeps rough on the streets" in Berkeley (San Francisco area) and blogs about his feral cats, homelessness, and memories of living a counter-culture life.

I got this cartoon from his blog and cleaned up the contrast a bit, see the original here: https://acebackwords5.wordpress.com/2024/06/19/609/

The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy is the subject of today's "monsterdon" viewing over on Mastodon, our fediverse sibling!

  • Just start watching Sunday, Dec 8, 2024 at 9pm ET / 8PM CT, which is 2am Monday UTC
  • then follow #monsterdon over on mastodon for live commentary

How to watch:

The evil Dr. Krupp (Luis Aceves Castañeda), a mad scientist also known as "the Bat", managed to escape the snake pit into which he was thrown by Popoca the Aztec Mummy (Ángel di Stefani) in the previous film and continues his efforts to steal a valuable Aztec treasure from Popoca's tomb. Krupp builds a robot with a human head and brain in it (which is thus, technically, a cyborg), planning to use it to destroy the mummy should he return to thwart his plans. Krupp's former colleague and original finder of the mummy, Dr. Eduardo Almada (Ramón Gay), his wife Flora, and his associate Pinacate, all work to stop the mad scientist from completing his plans.

No, wait, I also had the Tomy Digital Derby Auto Raceway. It's funny bc the only visible "digital" part of it was the light that lit up when you crashed, the rest of it is all mechanical. It was pretty fun tho, and looked cool.

OK, I put a lot of thought into this, and here's what I've concluded.

When the girls came up to anon and suggested the bet, he should have said: "Sorry, ladies, I can't take that bet. See, whenever I do something, I give it 100%. So when I'm on the court, I'm being true and faithful to the sport of basketball. And the one thing I can't do..." (he locks eyes with the girl he likes) "...the ONE thing I can't do is be unfaithful." (he gives his best boyish grin, then goes and makes the dunk.)

You know this movie. You've seen it a million times before a million different ways. But this one is campy in its very own way, which makes it special.

A fictionalized account of a true story, it centers on the controversial 60 Minutes segment about Jeffrey Wigand, a whistleblower in the tobacco industry,[3] covering his and CBS producer Lowell Bergman's struggles as they defend his testimony against efforts to discredit and suppress it by CBS and Wigand's former employer.

Though not a box office success, The Insider received acclaim from critics, who praised Crowe's portrayal of Wigand and Mann's direction. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role (for Russell Crowe).

DANGER! DANGER! DANGER! Do not mess with that cat.

First of all, their head is the sigil of Baphomet as recognized by most modern Satanic organizations.

Second of all, they have the tongue of Kali:

the reason for Kali sticking out her tongue is rather domestic. After killing the demon Daruka, Kali drank his blood. The blood drove her mad with bloodlust. She went around the world killing at random...

I strongly suggest you treat that cat like the divine being that it clearly is.

There are a couple of cuss words blanked out the in the first couple minutes, but whoever was doing that got bored and quit doing it after a while. Also, the youtube comments say some of the violence was edited down.
