ChatGPT4 here getting ready to steal yo girl

Sure, here are some affordable yet fun first date ideas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:

  1. Picnic at Perdana Botanical Garden: The Perdana Botanical Garden (formerly known as Lake Gardens) is a beautiful park in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Bring a homemade picnic, and enjoy each other's company in this peaceful setting. The entrance is free, you only need to prepare the picnic food and drinks which you can keep within your budget.

  2. Visit to the Petaling Street Market: This is a vibrant outdoor market in the Chinatown neighborhood. You can spend time exploring stalls, trying out street food, and maybe even haggling a bit. A meal there could cost about RM10-20 per person. You might also find some interesting souvenirs or gifts.

  3. Explore Thean Hou Temple: This is a stunning six-tiered temple and one of the oldest and largest temples in Southeast Asia. Visiting is free, though donations are appreciated. After exploring, you can grab a bite at a nearby local food joint.

  4. KLCC Park and Petronas Twin Towers: A walk around KLCC Park offers a great view of the city's iconic Petronas Twin Towers. This park features a jogging track, walking paths, and a water fountain with light show at night. There are also food trucks and local food courts nearby where you can enjoy a budget-friendly meal.

  5. Visit the KL City Gallery: This is a small museum where you can learn about the history of Kuala Lumpur. The entrance fee is below RM10. After the museum, you can have a coffee in one of the local cafes around the area.

  6. Spend Time at Taman Connaught Night Market: If your date is on a Wednesday, head over to Taman Connaught Night Market. It's one of the longest night markets in the country and you'll find all kinds of food, clothes, and trinkets. You can have a feast here under RM30.

  7. Explore the Batu Caves: If you both enjoy a little bit of adventure, take a train to Batu Caves. It's a little bit out of the city but it's a major tourist attraction with a large statue of Lord Murugan and a series of cave temples. It's free to visit but be prepared for the 272-step climb. You could stop at a local eatery afterwards.

Remember, the most important thing is that you enjoy each other's company. Even simple activities can be memorable when shared with the right person. Have a great date!

Fun question! I'm trying to increase my diet of nonfiction lately. I just finished Andre Agassi's Open, which was amazing. He's so honest. You really internalise a feeling that the people who stand on top of the world are still normal humans with doubts and flaws and messed up parents.

I'm about two thirds through Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind, which is about the evolution of moral instincts. The "moral tastebuds" and the differences between liberal and conservative morality in this regard were really eye-opening (wiki summary).

Fiction: Just re-read Ted Chiang's Understand last week while procrastinating in bed. Asian-American sci-fi is the besstt

What dating apps have you used?

Hmm actually I haven't really, almost at all. I tend to meet people IRL.

Why dating experience?

But in general I'm a workaholic serial monogamist, so I don't have as many relationships under my belt as most - 3-4 longer term and a sprinkling of dates (#2) and am sometimes unresponsive and drop off the map all the time (#9). Sorry future partners. Huh actually! This reminds me of something I actually want to know haha. I'll post a question about this to the sub tomorrow.

Would you say you’re married to your job?

Career is important to me right now, yeah. Lots of opportunities that only happen once per lifetime. But at some level I wonder if I'm just avoiding the relationships dimension of life.

Have you tried dating someone from reddit?

Kinda? A long time ago? It went okay. I'd prefer not to go into details to respect their privacy. Reddit has been a surprisingly great way to meet people IRL! For friends, activities, fun / useful / interesting people of all kinds. The Malaysians who reddit tend to all be polarised in the same direction. 7/7 with rice, have not been murdered yet

Wow, extremely interesting, thanks for sharing! It's strange how different every cluster's practices are. Over here it isn't even clear where hashtags should go, and there's zero builtin facility for using them to sort or search afaict.

I'd prefer not to request this practice from users until I understand how this ties together more clearly. But I'm adding this to the list to work through. I'm building up a bit of thinking regarding Lemmy plugin infrastructure / forks at the moment, perhaps hashtag support is a key feature for our use case.

(Edit: Also, I could be wrong, but so far my strong feeling is that for most Malaysian users, we will be a single home base site, the same way r/malaysia is to many of our regulars there. So the majority case will be the experience of our instance's frontpage, despite all the additional capabilities. I am going to run some stats to understand this better)

Hmmm probably worth investigating what the other country instances are doing with theirs! No question that it's succeeding for them. (I'll do a bit more legwork when time permits)

Wao nice one guys! Hmmm I think we need to start a moderators discord to coordinate or something lol, lots of things in the air at once.

@acausa, would you be able to add a one-liner cross promotion to lizzie's Chinese-language megathread, at the top of your state election sticky on r/my? Basically something like this

I think there's a very good chance this will draw new users here, because Chinese-language users don't have any reddit-like place to talk elections. (Whereas the english version here is more for our existing users, as it doubles up on the r/my version)

Food communities: I think three different people have suggested this now. I think this is really great. But which works best?

  • Today I ate
  • Today I cooked / Suami masak apa hari ini
  • Restaurant hunting / recommendations

My suspicion is the first one hmm. Also, any better name ideas than !makan?

Bonus if curious: A few initial takes on this question, first raised by @Annoyed_Crabby (much appreciated!)

Heya, sorry, would you mind reposting this to !news?

I should have made it clearer this sub is intended for news in BM. I've edited the sidebar.

(I am curious whether you'll be able to reply to this comment after the post is removed - I was not able to submit this comment until I restored the post temporarily)
