@destructdisc As a European, I find this sad. I have a dozen stores within 10 minutes of walking and I never take my car to go shopping. Having to drive everywhere is like having a paywall for almost every activity in your life.

@destructdisc The consequence of poorly designed cities.

You can't really blame people when getting around without a car is very difficult.

But when you live in a town with plentiful transit options, some of which are faster then driving, then you can absolutely blame carbrain idiots.

@Davriellelouna I agree that these type of cities are really ugly, but, to be honest, if this was a European type of a city, those mountains in the distance would be mostly obscured by the buildings. And that would still be better than these ridiculous wide roads.

@Davriellelouna Oh, but it is very important to have this kind of car.

You see, if an idiot is walking down a street and shouting that he is an idiot, how far can people hear him? Maybe a 100 meters if the street is not noisy.

But with a loud exhaust and screeching tires, that message can have much further reach.

@KoboldCoterie @Humanius Student drivers usually learn quickly. Tesla has been developing that thing for years and it's still struggling with basic driving.

@spankmonkey @Davriellelouna That is true, but how many people live in such communities? 1%?

Besides, the main problem are cars in the cities, not some farm trucks that barely see any asphalt.

@some_guy @Davriellelouna Yup, I wish we had it here. People leave their cars idling (with music blasting) to go into a shop for a bag of chips or something.

@Noodle07 Yes, but this isn't just about empathy. Cities are nicer without the public spaces being occupied by the homeless people, who are sometimes drunk, drugged and dirty. This sounds brutal, but it's true. So why not have a society that will keep the number of unhoused people at a minimum? It's better for everyone.

@garbagebagel @some_guy I really don't get that bizarre American logic. The way to deal with unhoused people taking up public spaces is to provide them shelters, or better yet, healthier economy for all, so that there wouldn't be so much unhoused. Removing public seating is just insane.
