"Sir" is in her first name, and her last name is also a boy name.

definitions:

  • prisons hold prisoners accused or convicted of crimes. the big difference between prisons and concentration camps is scale and homogeneity - camps are bigger and have one kind of prisoner.

  • gulags hold political prisoners but aren't as big as concentration camps. kinda Soviet-specific.

  • reeducation camps hold masses of political prisoners with the goal of indoctrinating them with some ideology. the Xinjiang camps for the Uighurs are an example.

  • concentration camps are mass prisons for political prisoners - usually prisoners of war or ethnic minorities. most Nazi camps, along with the Japanese internment camps, were concentration camps.

  • death camps are concentration camps used for mass murder/genocide. Auschwitz was the major Nazi death camp for the Holocaust, though there were a few others.

  • refugee camps are mass temporary shelters. you're allowed to leave. FEMA camps and various UN camps are good examples.

Alligator Auschwitz is a concentration camp because it's 1) massive, 2) full of the same type of prisoner (ethnic minority migrants), 3) who can't leave. it's not yet a death camp, but most Nazi camps weren't death camps (they centralized that!)

Why would he push NATO countries to increase their defense spending target by 150% if he was planning on actually invading?

Trump isn't planning to invade NATO (except maybe Greenland.) he's planning to leave NATO. NATO exists to protect the Western world, and its highly interconnected economies. it's a globalist project, and the US's role as de-facto leader of NATO gave us the ability to project tremendous soft military power, the same way the dollar lets us project soft economic power.

MAGA are isolationists. NATO protects "the West," but Trump doesn't care about the West, only America. so what if Putin carves up Europe? has Europe even said "thank you?" they're screwing us over, just look at the trade deficit! that's the logic.

Roko's Basilisk is real, but only for LW rationalists. living with contradictions in our thinking and using gut feeling rather than obsessively chaining Bayesian priors together protected the rest of us.

seriously, Yudkowsky and others were tormented by the thought of the Basilisk. it's a literal mind virus. just one that requires a very specific host (true believers in Timeless Decision Theory.)

I was considering tipping off the FBI until around the second paragraph when I realized this was Dwarf Fortress. without context, this was.. disturbing to read.

it's wild to me that the Court struck down the ban on bump stocks in Cargill, which are obviously unusual devices without a history of use for self-defense (and strained to misinterpret the "by a single function of the trigger" language of the NFA) yet they decline to overturn this decision.

where's the internal consistency? you'd think they'd at least follow precedent they themselves set.

that's based as fuck. but how do they live without maps?

613 mitzvot! ± a couple hundred, depending on whether you're a Kohen, live in Israel, if the Temple has been rebuilt, or are the first-century sage Hillel (in which case there's one mitzvah and 612 articles of commentary.)

it's going to be increasingly hard for CA to justify US as a safe harbor for LGBT people when the US has literally erased the T, and is starting even to block trans people from obtaining US visas. not that I'm terribly optimistic that CA will even bother justifying it.
