The only real difference between halal chicken and non-halal chicken is that the halal chicken has to be conscious when it's killed. This does not improve the quality of the meat, it just makes the chicken suffer more than it needs to.

CW: death of animal

There are a few requirements for meat to be halal, such as killing humanely (usually by a single stroke of a sharp knife), and making sure the animal is healthy and has not been ill-treated. Some say that this improves the taste, as frightened animals produce lactic acid, which sours and hardens the meat.

You left out the part where the animal has to be conscious, which, like I said, is the only real difference. Even if you believe that you can taste the fear in your animal product, wouldn't the animal being unconscious for the process produce less?

What I understand is that the consciousness requirement was placed so that people could verify that the animal was healthy and had not been ill-treated. Stunning is allowed after examination and before slaughter. Meat certified by the UK Halal Food Authority, for example, is from stunned animals.
