Yay the admin of ponder.cat RSS lemmy instance got a new domain name (https://ibbit.at/) after being kicked off .cat due to a deficiency of Catalan.

I can't resolve the comm links within hexbear or find them in the search. Do we just need to wait for some sort of connections to magically make their way through federation, or does some button need to be pushed by an admin?

@Admin@ibbit.at intro post: Welcome, and RSS community list copy pasted below in the spoiler

Intro and list of communities with links to resolve correctly within instance

Welcome! Here, you can easily subscribe to a variety of RSS news sources presented as Lemmy communities. We have two bot users posting content:

If you don't want paywalled content, you can block the paywall user. Or, if you don't want any of this, you can block both or the whole instance.

If you don't see a community for an RSS feed you would like to follow, create a post in !meta@ibbit.at or send me a DM. I'll post announcements to this community when new feeds get added, so subscribe if you want updates.

Available Communities

News & Journalism

Culture, Politics & Society

Nature and Environment

IT and Tech

Science and Technology

Ars Technica

Streams

Art & Entertainment

Gaming

In addition, you can add any RSS feed to any community which you moderate. Send a DM to rss@ibbit.at with any number of the following commands:

  • /add $rss_url $community@$instance - Add a new RSS feed
  • /delete $rss_url $community@$instance - Unlink an existing RSS feed from the community
  • /list $community@$instance - List all feeds for a community
  • /help - Show this help message

For example:

/add https://hackaday.com/blog/feed/ hackaday@ibbit.at

Welcome! Glad to have you with us. If you have questions or want a new feed added, you know what to do.

Maybe I'm just a hater of bot rss accounts because I sort by new on all, but I kind of find these bots annoying. I go to post a Mongabay article and it's already been posted by a bot. I use an RSS feed so I don't really see the point of them and it kind of takes the fun away for me from being the first one to post something on lemmy. But they can do whatever they want, it just feels a little soulless to interact with a post that was posted by a bot. But, I know I can just mute them, just posting out loud.

I have an RSS feed reader too but the news just piles up. I just logged in to my reader (miniflux) and it had like 1600 news stories waiting after not checking it for quite a while.

I since I'm opening Lemmy anyway, it's nice to have the feeds on the same place. I rarely interact with the story from the RSS instance. Instead, I cross post it to a relevant local community. So, It doesn't bother me that a bot got to it first. Personally, I'd have every post the bots make be locked automatically to encourage using cross posting.

Using cross posting has the knock on effect of showing where else the story is being discussed.
