Is he shitty? I don’t know anything about him other than he makes videos and does flashy philanthropy. It’s exploitative to make entertainment out of philanthropy, but in this case that entertainment makes money that contributes to the next act of philanthropy. The necessity of that is hellworld shit, but I’m not sure I’d personally fault him for it.
He's completely dead inside and has turned his entire life into a slop maximization algorithm. I don't want to go chasing it down right now, but he basically never stops "working" and considers every waking moment in terms of the opportunity cost associated with not working, up to and including shaming his girlfriend for costing him money by wanting a date night. Could there be a moment of real empathy under there? Maybe. But I'm not convinced he does anything for any reason besides self promotion/profit generation until proven otherwise.
He's an odd character. The people from his small community in NC have nothing really bad to say about him from what I've heard, but his whole schtick is basically conspicuous charity. Which again, is better than no charity, but the fact that the Ouch My Balls guy is popular because social welfare and social services are so bad is worrying.
He does legitimately put everything back into his garbage or into charity though. Dude still just live in a normal house in Greenville NC, and does a lot for the area.
Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up just running for mayor or something there at some point...
He is literally a billionaire. The fact that he is the kind of shitty billionaire who chooses not to live like one doesn't improve that. His "charity" is performative garbage that hurts more than helps because of the way it makes people complacent and redirects attention from actually worthwhile efforts to stuff that makes mr beast richer.
Definitely not defending him, he just has a major cult of personality in his direct area that I see since I live in the state. Clearly he's done enough to make people in that area actually kinda like him.
The big problem is that he's able to garner support doing essentially selfish bullshit.
That wasn't aimed at you specifically, some of the comments on this post are really, really concerning with the amount of slack they're giving a billionaire who got his wealth from "doing charity"
diverting charity from stuff that's actually effective to his spectacle can be negative charity. i forget all the details but i remember a few years ago he was in on some river trash thing that was just worse than a different thing conservationists were already doing.
Agreed, he's not like some altruistic super selfless individual with some grand vision of an equitable future for all. He's just some weirdo who's so obsessed with his clout that he will literally just give money away so people like him. Not in a way that fixes the underlying issue, or even in a way that promotes some private interest like most liberal/conservative/religious charities. He's just a selfish chaotic neutral.

Some of his videos are legit dangerous and would get smaller channels banned/demonitized. He had something like "escape from being tied up in a house that's on fire" type shit. Then there's his unhealthy snacks targeted towards kids. I forget what it was. IIRC they were marketed as health foods for kids but had a bunch of corn syrup and no nutritional value.
Oh yes there was the chocolate marketed as the healthy alternative and it had more sugar than average chocolate

He would do streams to sell merch and he would take an iPhone or stack of cash and put it in the box with a hoodie and say "whoever buys a hoodie right now will have a chance to get this prize" but then he wouldn't send the boxes with the prizes. So kids would see the stream, use their (parent's) money to buy his stuff because they think they are going to get a free PlayStation or something, and then have 0% of actually receiving it.
That was one example, a former employee made a video exposing a lot of it and he gave different examples beyond that

Of course he's shitty. He's extremely wealthy! Likely a billionaire. So this is someone who became a literal billionaire by "doing charity", meaning that he has enough money to just straight out end a lot of the problems he pretends to care about, but he doesn't, because spending a few hundred grand installing wells in poor African villages makes him wealthy but fighting to end the exploitation of Africa that creates that need doesn't. He is a massive, irredeemable piece of shit, and obviously so. He is perhaps the most predatory member of an entirely predatory class.

We just need to convince him that the biggest things he could be doing are pressing the communism button and doing massive record-breaking infrastructure projects. Make a YouTube video about eliminating homelessness by seizing property from landlords! Another one about building transcontinental high-speed rail!

There's this one guy one youtube called the Kavernackle and he's been saying for years that running for president is one of MrBeast's ambitions. He's getting more validated every dad.
Kav is great. One of my first internet friends in the political sphere. Wished he streamed more these days tho.
But yeah he was early on YT for articulating Mr. Beast's horrifying existence
