Seriously I do not understand signs like this.
They only scold the very customers they want, while they will bounce off the customers they don't want.
These signs are self masturbatory in nature. Just someone who wants to rant and feel better than others in a public fashion.
No one wants the stinky customers. If you're insulted by this you should stfu and take a bath.
I fear you might be able to read, but not able to comprehend.
There are a legion of other people who also jump to insults pretending they cant understand the problem.
I fear you're the one who is having trouble reading. The sign clearly delineates who is allowed and who is not. Wearing deodorant and showered within the last 24 hours =Welcome. No deodorant or has not showered =fuck off. How is this insulting ALL customers?

You aren't disagreeing honestly. You're disagreeing as if you can't see my arguments. I wish lemmy as a platform had a "mute replies to this comment" so I could stop seeing the replies on this thread specifically. No one is arguing in good faith, they're all, like you, masturbating to the idea of feeling superior to people rather than acknowledging the disrespect to the customers.
I can see your arguments, they are based on the incorrect presumption that this sign is insulting to all customers. It isn't, it clearly spells out who it's intended to disrespect. Anyone that doesn't meet that criteria is free to walk right by.
That's not a sign that just gets put up. That's a response to a problem.
Im not arguing about whether it is or isn't. Im saying no sensible person thinks this is actually a solution and this is 100% a narcissism play.

Ill tell you what it isn't: This.
Rude and demeaning text aimed at your customers absolutely does not help the problem.
They could try a probably still bad approach of saying the rooms are warm and so people might want to pay more attention to this.
They could have people just approach those who smell and point it out to them politely
They could have better air exchange to mitigate the problem when not caught.
There are so many options which arent this, because this simply does not work.
The only way someone would be offended by this, is if they don't wear deodorant and are aware of their own BO, but decided it's actually a good thing that everyone can smell it.
Wanting everyone to have a good time and not have to smell something horrible isn't in any way narcissistic.
Thinking it's okay to make everyone else smell your own BO, absolutely is narcissistic.

If you are a regular person, it tells you that you are associated with this now.
It means you don't want to go to a place that is associated with this.
You pretending you don't understand my point doesnt make your argument sound.
As a regular person, if I saw this I would be glad they were saying something. I wouldn't associate myself with it because I know that I bathe regularly and don't smell like rancid asshole. I spent a lot of time the game store in my town when I was a kid and mfers that couldn't wash properly were absolutely a problem.
You wouldn't think that people seeing this sign, and then seeing you, would just assume you were one of the people affected by this sign? Or that the person who put the sign up was hostile towards their customers?
What of the myriad of other, actually effective methods to combat the problem, over this, a completely ineffective way?
If I was inside the store I would assume that people seeing me would know that I have passed the smell test and am therefore not part of the problem. The person that put up the sign is hostile towards stinky people and assholes, they've shown no ill-intent towards anyone else by posting this.
What of them? This is just doing the first step automatically. It's the same concept as a no trespassing sign. By having it there they have already been given notice of the rules, and if they ignore it have no recourse when you escalate to kicking them out.
This makes no sense. You could kick them out the same regardless of the sign. The sign only serves the purpose I'm mentioning and I've not seen an argument otherwise.
By having the sign there, a certain percentage of stinky people are going to know they aren't welcome and leave without having to be told. For those who ignore it, the employees of the store and other customers now all have a posted policy they can point to when they ask them to leave. Opposed to not having the sign and it being left open to argument.
That percentage is precisely 0.
People aren't going in thinking they're stink, and the ones who were before, won't stop after.
It wouldn't be left open to argument regardless.
All this does is insult their customer base. That's literally it. It serves no practical or functional purpose.
Any time I see signs generally insulting a customer base like this, you've lost me as a customer. Not just specifically this sign, but any sign in general talking down to customers.
I can't believe the number of people who support this.
How is it so rude and demeaning? It literally is just a warning sign that if someone doesn't have a hygenic lifestyle they will be asked to leave.
